Being a fairly new ducati owner i find it strange that ducati allen fasteners are a loose fit on allen keys? Is this the norm ?.
They are standard metric fasteners. Just be really careful that you are using quality tools and not the sheet that many motoring places sell.
Hi Perry thank's for your reply i am using britool allen keys and they are a sloppy fit but the same tools are perfect on my bmw and triumph ?.Was about to do an oil change on my 749 and the way the allen hex socket was in the drain plug makes me nervous about putting any force on the plug.
The only crappy fasteners I found as OEM are the ones that hold the silencer covers on. They are really shallow and a tool hardly gets any purchase. I changed those for a better type of screw. Everything else seems to be fine, but as advised up top - you must use high quality bits. Even Britool drivers can wear. Certainly dont use 'em on anything tight unless whichever bit you have is a clean and solid bite or you will have problems. Ducati's are an annoying mix of hex and torx too - so you need two good sets.
My 900ie is the same, it is a bit sloppy but make sure the allen key is fully in and it will be fine. And you can't really get better tools than Britool.
I find the black ones tend to be made of cheese. If you want to keep oem fasteners abide strictly to torque specs. Even then they can be shite.
Change the sump plug once you get it out for a new one. Or, be prepared for a world of pain. Edit. I find the WERA brand of keys to be the best. Worthwhile investment.
Skts are better and as @Expat Jack said you can change the sump plug, there are (forgot thatcheers jack) ones on ebay, i'm ok with my one on the 900ie comes out fine never had issue. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-7...889800?hash=item54538b4848:g:iggAAOSwCtJaX-fr
I don't think that Britool are that great a make but that's just my view. I do have some Halfords Professional sockets that seem to be OK - I don't use 12 point sockets from anyone. I tend to buy Facom and Tenq from toolmart, or Snap-On if I can get it - I have a car garage down the road and if I see the Snap-On van there then I will buy from him. That's what the professional use as they haven't got time to p1ss around with rounded off nuts and bolt.
Facom now your talking and Snap on overrated IMO, the Draper Expert range is really good but i guess like everything it's what the individual prefers and past experience, i did used to work in a tool shop for seven odd years and experienced a large range of tools(customers) in those years and you ain't going to please everyone.
Thank's Wayne i will change the plug it makes more sense to have one with a hex removes the problem altogether.
