Industry's contant search to shave fractions of pennies off costs while pretending that you get the same product, they are now sending oil around in plastic bags, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301347524468?ViewItem=&item=301347524468 You check and recheck these listing but they still get you This showed up in a box and a bag, its going back.
LOL, I complained. This listing did show a proper bottle, within 5 minutes they changed the image from bottle to box
I don't think I could bring myself to buy things like oil from ebay. I'd never be totally convinced it was legit...
You make a good point, I checked to see that they were a unit and not a guy in his house. Box is fully labelled but that means less and less these days. Guess I should have gone to a shop but....
Opie are on eBay, and are sometimes cheaper on there than they are on their site, for the same reliable service.
I have used Opie before and shall ONLY use them again. I shall pay more attention rather than click and forget
For what it's worth, sportsbikeshop.co.uk have a good range of oil at reasonable prices, and as well as free delivery they do click and collect; of course if you're close enough to one of their stores, when lockdown isn't in effect you can simply turn up and buy off the shelf (as an alternative to Halfords, etc. - useful in a hurry). On their site the reviews for the Silkolene boxes are OK, although the comment has been made that there's no window to see how much is left - it wouldn't be hard to weigh it though. To be fair to Silkolene, the box idea must genuinely reduce waste, because with the cardboard outer going into recycling, that only leaves a bag for landfill/incineration. When I dump old oil at the local council recycling centre there's always a wheelie bin (sorry, no photo) full of filthy old oil containers, into which I drop mine after emptying into the oil tank. I'm sure they can only get burned or buried.
I wouldn't have any issue with getting the oil in a plastic bag. Quite the opposite. Better for the environment. Also as others wrote above, plenty of fake oil out there..based on his feedback it seems genuine seller.
Is it not bound to be one of those “in a bag for industrial use” deals with garages not wanting to faff about with empty bottles, while consumers get a bottle for ease of storage?
Wish my wife thought like that, it'd save me a fortune in buying boxes of wine !! Do they come with a tap in like the wine does, I'd quite like that, it'd save me spilling it when filling up my engines & having to wash the funnel !
Silkolene in a bottle will be old stock. If you look at their web site, the first page shows a bottle but when you go to the page of your choice, it’s shown as a bag in a box. A workshop local to me has been selling the bag in a box for most if this year. Andy
