  2. That's interesting, we are all different but the reverse effect usually comes up if researched and certainly fits my experience. I can fall asleep almost straight after a bowl of pasta.

  3. My physio came yesterday to hear all my problems!

I not going to start on any eating or drinking -especially caffeine - as losing weight is a priority and I would not eat and drink at 3am, normally! But, he also recommended the yoga breathing thing.

In his words: "I know that you'll think this BS but it DOES work for me!"

I've got an app on my phone but since my ebook has much better nightlight, I am gonna look into books that I can read. I'm game to try it!

But, Ia may have a solution: a hospital appointment at 9:10 am gets me up! Mind you, I just never slept after 1am!

  4. I mean really carb FREE. None. Zero. Only for a couple of days, then restrict carbs to those that don't 'sugar' for as long as you can keep it up. It's basically the start of an Atkins type diet. Almost impossible to keep going whilst having anything like a normal life, but boy do you sleep !!

  5. I know what you mean as have done this 4 times in as many months* as part of a health routine, but it hasn't helped me in the way it has you, we are all different. You must know about ketosis then I guess?

    *a 3 or 4 day "course"

  6. Yeah. Knocks the head right off yer beer :D

  7. Yoga breathing does work it’s about focusing on your breath breathing in slowly pause breath out slowly pause and you can build your pause up as you go along
We use a technique breath in for count of four pause for four breath out for four and pause for four and repeat.
The counting will quiet your mind and the breathing is relaxing
Apparently they use this four breathing in the army for stressful situation to keep the mind calm ready for action
I can say it works and I use it when I wake in the night lay in bed.
We also breath with a metronome breath for say 3 pause for 3 breath out for 3 then see how long you can keep the pause for without gasping for breath, keep it smooth
Nose breath DONT use your mouth as this keeps the air warm and your temperature regulated

  8. A potential solution I found last night, was to have a taxi booked for 8:10 am for a 9:10 am hospital appointment. Didn't sleep much BUT IS WAS A PAIN-FREE NIGHT - having a taxi booked does not ensure a good night's sleep but I did have a pain-free one!

Bloody useless Doctors : he should have said to just book a taxi when I told him about the pain in my cheek!

I am being steered towards yoga for better sleep but I'll keep in mind booking taxis - just a lot later than at 8:10!

But the original advice that my physio gave me about getting up early may be the key. I haven't been doing that because I've been so tired. I think that I will try doing it no matter how tired I am! Just have more alarms set rather than just the radio coming on.

it is cold and dark but no excuses!

  9. Yoga is bollocks.
    Natural remedies are bollocks.
Trying to alter bed/wake times is bollocks.

Get yourself some Unisom (doxylamine succinate) not addictive, safe and you'll be sleeping like a baby within an hour of taking a tablet.

  10. As someone who takes oxycodone/gabapentin who doesn’t sleep well for pain I can say that yoga isn’t bollocks. It does work but it takes commitment
Pain killers don’t guarantee a good nights sleep they have the bloody opposite affect

  11. agreed. I have tried the best that I can buy legally from my local chemist. All useless.

  12. Oh dear.

Either of you take ONE Unisom (which is NOT a painkiller but a powerful extract from an antihistamine) and then cross your heart post here you weren't asleep within an hour and got at least 8 hours peaceful sleep - until you've tried it you can't comment on it.

  13. Checking the contraindications it’s not advisable to mix the two
I can’t have alcohol either, when I have the affects aren’t very nice and I have woken up after a couple of hours.

Since doing yoga I mainly sleep well because I can get myself back to sleep now :)

    whatever works for the individual

  14. This group is costing me a fortune for someone who has no savings and earns zero! My mind is well and truly gone but I've got good music!

  15. And the very unfashionable thing that I'm doing is to buy CDs and then mp3-ing them. Apparently, the ting to do is to subscribe to some streaming service (like Spotify) so that you can only get the music on internet-enabled devices. My method is cheaper and I can copy the music anywhere I want it - like my main music system is not internet enabled unless I stream from my mobile phone - I am so untrendy but I won't email my solicitor asking to go for more damages because of brain damage (Oh no! - another track!) as I've become bored with that gig.

  16. that unison sounds interesting.

+1 for the breathing exercises. Check out ted x cape may on you tube.

  17. I'm surprised you don't drop off straight away......perhaps try Radiohead or The Smiths instead.

  18. I used to tale Pro-actidil for hayfever allergies.....two a day maximum. If I took three in a day, I would doze off at work and as soon as I got home.

It was withdrawn from use (in the late 70s I think) because four a day had the potential to kill and several suicides had taken place.

  19. It's always useful to hear a well-considered , balanced point of view ...
.... especially from a rational scientific perspective .

  20. Contraindications?

Have you checked the contraindications for Aspirin or Paracetamol or Ibuprofen lately? They exclude anyone on the planet from taking them. That is because possible legal liability is taken into account and since lawyers (such as myself) will always lean on the side of excluding liability even the most remotely possible interaction will be listed.

For example, @Ducbird you say you will not try Unisom because of the contraindications with your present medication. So why on earth are you taking gabapentin and oxycodone when they are strongly contraindicated? https://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/gabapentin-with-oxycodone-1147-0-1770-0.html?professional=1

    Consistency please!
