Exactly ... yoga, taking herbal remedies and altering sleep patterns have no basis in empirical science. But hey mate ... the placebo effect does, so you kick on.
because palliative care put me on them for the bone damage I have and the fractured spine from Myeloma damage because I have blood cancer I have asked for sleeping tablets and I have been refused probably because of the contraindications
Well the only relevant contraindication with Unisom and your meds are: "Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other products that cause drowsiness such as opioid pain or cough relievers (such as codeine, hydrocodone)" And that's not, strictly speaking, a contraindication, it is simply that if oxycodone were making you drowsy (which clearly it is not), Unisom would make you more drowsy. There are no other interactions listed. Being refused sleeping medication by a Doctor has nothing to do with contraindications - the prescription of sleeping meds (barbiturates esp.) has been an absolute no-no in the profession due to the risk of dependency for decades. Only those who are at the very terminal stage of illness will get a dose of those. Unisom (doxylamine succinate more correctly) is harmless. It's risk profile is at the lowest end of over the counter medications. The only effect it will have is send you to sleep ... but of course do as you wish.
if people are happy using alternative therapies or medicines and it's not hurting them, or anyone else, and most importantly it appears to help the person get to sleep, then where is the harm in it?
The harm in alternative therapies arises if the patient abandons treatments which actually work and substitutes delusional fantasies. That harm is all the worse if the alternative therapies are applied to others with no choice or agency, like children. The benefit of alternative therapies is that they can exploit the placebo effect even where it is not available to ordinary medicine for ethical reasons.
I hate the word 'palliative' and all that it implies . Love and kindness (and meds, and alternative therapies if they help) is the only way. RBW.
Palliative now means living with cancer, palliative care is able to work meds out to keep pain free and live life more happily It’s not as scary anymore Bless you
I have to agree A friend of mine asked me did she think juicing and a cleaner diet would help with prolonging a terminal diagnosis She already eats veggies and fruit and is in the position she is so eating more isn’t going to help that outcome I also have a cousin who is an anti vaccer who wants to put zeolite into her body to cleanse her cells! At $69 it’s a great sale for the marketeers and my friend could see that as a solution for her out of desperation. She isn’t by the way it’s just an example Anything alternative should be used in conjunction with in my opinion. I certainly wouldn’t be relying on greens/juicing or anything with no data
