  4. Checking the obituary column and finding I'm still not in it.:)
Waking up in the morning. Always a joyful surprise better still when I don't recognise the duvet cover. A row of perfectly lined up wheelie bins behind a 916 on a perfectly kept Yorkshire stone patio. The smell of freshly ground coffee......I could go on and often do.:)

  6. Sorry it was late, people were waiting and was in a hurry.
I have had both Cats and Dogs. Do you think Dog's, or your dog in particular is why you felt that way?
Or is it any pet that can make you feel that way?

  7. It can’t be ‘sliced bread’ can it? Because when you say something is “the best thing since sliced bread” then surely that becomes the best thing ever :)

  17. We always had cats and I was particularly close to one I had from the age of 13 which we adopted as a still unweaned kitten with cat flu who wasn’t expected to survive as her mother and 2 of her siblings had succumbed to the same illness. As we’d hand-reared her she was incredibly affectionate and sweet natured - well indoors she was, but when she got outside despite being tiny and blind in one eye, she turned into a lethal bird-killer and one of our neighbours complained about her attacking his German Shepherd after it got too close to our back fence for her liking!

However, I left home when I was 18 and though I really liked seeing her again when I would come back to visit, I don’t recall shedding any tears for or missing her to any great extent when I was away. Likewise, when she died at the age of 20, I was sad but not heartbroken

I could see that dogs were amusing and they make good companions and when I was a kid one of our neighbours had a black Lab that spent most of its time at weekends and during school holidays with me and my brother from when I was 9 until my mid teens, so I had some experience of them. However, I didn’t really understand the depth of the bond people often claimed to have formed with them.

As Iggy is the first dog I’ve owned I can’t say if it’s just him or if I’d feel the same way about another dog. It’s true that he’s probably a particularly loveable example of a particularly loveable breed that are well known to have a wonderful mix of bonkersness and affection that makes them incredibly endearing, but I suspect I’d feel similarly about another dog that interacted with me in the same way most dogs tend to do.

I could go on gushing about him for hours but the short version is that I love him in the same way that I do my children and even the mere thought of anything happening to him can bring me to tears. I’d go so far as to say that raising him from a puppy and forging the bond that we have made over the past 13 months has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

  18. Do you love it so much that when you can’t control your feet you blame it on the boogie instead?
