Clamp On Pegs Unscrewing Themselves

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Datboi, Mar 26, 2021.

  1. hello, i got a pair of clamp on pegs for my ducati monster 620, i put them more forward than the OEM passanger pegs because i have high exhausts and bags so my passanger had nowhere to put their legs.

the issue i have is that these pegs use a bolt to clamp on, the thing is, no matter how much i tighten the bolt (reasonably, i don't wanna strip it) as soon as you put some weight on the peg it unscrew's it self, it's kind of hard to explain so i'll try, also look at the picture i posted....

so there is a bolt under that you screw, whenever you put your food on the peg, you're pushing forwards, thus turning the peg forward and unscrewing it, i've put a lot of torque on the bolt yet light pressure is all it's needed to turn the peg....

  2. Some kind of thread lock?

  3. tried loctite blue, too weak, and i can't get loctite red right now because of the lockdown, we have idiotic restrictions and if i were to go buy some threadlocker that wouldn't be a good enough reason o leave my house if i get pulled over... do you think epoxy glue would do well as a thread locker?

  4. No, dont use epoxy glue. It has the breaking strain of a warm Kit-Kat. Loctite Red. Or if I were you go back to standard pegs. Even Loctite Red has its limits.

  5. It'd be good to see how you have installed the pegs so we can understand your problem a little more easily.

  6. If you swap the pegs over from side to side or turn them over when mounting them won’t the forward push of a foot tighten the peg?

Alternatively, as said, the correct thread lock.

You can go get that, the Gards aren’t gonna fine you for that, it’s essential. IME the Gards don’t even want to have anything to do with all this shite, it’s just a visible deterrent. I’ve been stopped loads of times, 3x today. I’ve always got a genuine (well quasi genuine) reason and they never ask for proof, just wave you on.

  7. i think i figured it out, i added 2 washers and torqued down real well with blue threadlocker and it seems to hold well...

you would be surprised by how much Italian police is idiotic, I've had so many friends get a ticket even tho they had good reasons to be outside, there is no such thing as freedom anymore in this country, we've always been corrupt af and always will sadly...

  8. :joy::joy: and there was me thinking it was an Oirish flag what eith the name Datboi and all. My bad. I’ve no experience of the Italian Police.
