Hi all, I'm a recent convert to multis having recently converted from 848s. Took delivery of a 950S last week and think it's superb, if not a little more complex on the electronics side than I'm accustomed! And on that note, I tried to connect my zumo 660 up to the dedicated GPSs power supply under the LH fairing insert. Basically following the advice from a thread on this forum I removed the trim cover, unplugged the plug lead, removed the shrinkwrap and temp connected the leads to my garmin cradle but nothing happened. A multimeter then revealed no current across the stripped wires. I checked the manual but could not find a GPS power switch or control on the display so am a bit stumped. Just wondering if I missed something obvious before I contact the dealer? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Cheers,
Silly question, you have turned the bike on ? Pretty sure it's a switched live, not a permanent live. Andy
Hi Andy, Yes, a good point and I should have mentioned that I tried it with ignition on and engine running. It did take quite a lot of effort to remove the shrink wrap from the fly lead and I thought I may have damaged one of the wires but they are OK visually. Unfortunately I can't get the multi probe into the female connector on the bike to confirm the current there.
The best way to remove the shrink wrap from the fly lead is to put it in boiling water and it softens and pulls off. Have you got the positive and negative the right way round?
Thanks for the hot water tip - i just used that to remove the last bit of shrink wrap on the fly lead to see if the wires underneath were OK. I hadn't thought about the fuse or would have a clue which one it is - I'll check the manual had have a look under the seat - cheers!
Yep, the fuse had blown, even though it hasn't been used. Power is showing on the multi tester so I'll fit the Garmin, Thanks again.
Cheers, I can't believe it left the factory blown, so maybe the shop has done it during assembly or PDI
I've had that 10A fuse blow twice now on mine, I do have the fog lights. I now carry a bunch of spare 10A's and a replacement for the rest.
If it's the same fuse (position 5, 10A) as the accessory socket then it's quite easy to blow it plugging anything into the Hella socket inside the fairing on the right. I've taken to doing this with the ignition off since it blew a couple on the first foreign trip on the bike and plugged in the power to my tank bag for phone charging.
Yep, that sodding one, I used to charge my phone from it and I never got a consistent cause as some days would be fine, others gone within 5 minutes of riding. I now don't bother charging the phone and instead just run my sat nav for longer trips.
I've just stocked up on fuses for it today. It was an interesting way to start to become familiar with the bike as I had to pull off the central black cover under the handlebar mounting and also the RH and LH beak black side panels with the DUCATI logo on. Took me 3 minutes to remove them and half a bloody hour to refit. They're either poorly designed or, I suspect, poor quality, being the wrong shape. Seem to be too short by about 5mm in that once the front end is located in the beak location hole, the two rear holes don't line up to the corresponding holes in the tank cover. I had to slightly distort the side panels to align the holes and fit the bolts. I'm guessing they're all like that and it's another case of poor supplier part quality, a bit like the valves on the V4..... Expect more for £15k.
