I used to work at the nearby RAL facility, some of the scientist I worked with with were intellectually brilliant, however mad as bloody hatstands! Very 'special' individuals!
It caught my eye as my Son was talking to me about the fact the French were light years ahead of the rest of the world in this technology. Yet to them they’re perfectly normal........I guess you’ve got to be a little crazy to be doing these kinds of experiments. Working next to technology that will vaporise you should you make a critical error.

I've been reading books and listening to online lectures on quantum physics at least twice a week for years and I'm still only marginally less baffled than I was when I started. As Prof Brian Greene points out, it simply doesn't accord with our classical understanding of how the world works or at least appears to work on large scales, and any early hominid that sat around on the African savannah thinking too deeply about such things got eaten by leopards, so we never evolved the ability.

Same here, and it is amazing stuff...as a simple introduction everyone should watch the double slit experiment... this makes the weirdness accessible and understandable to a certain degree!
The guy in the picture there. Richard Feynman. Read his books. Six Easy Pieces. He has other books too. This guy can help you. He also has a set if physics books which are wonderful. Mr Feynman, for me, is quite simply the best teacher.
When I was working with these types, It was clear to me that if you understood the subject matter, you really saw (even had to see) the world in a very different way to most other people. Bazinga!
