Dropped my new Panigale today just 4 weeks after having it - Casual ride out, nice weather, enjoying the new bike, rolled into a parking lot just to stretch the legs a bit. It was pretty busy but i spotted a spare space last second as i came round a turn and decided to just go for it and took a too sharp of a turn going really slow and just lost the center of gravity on the bike, could feel it going and i knew i couldn't stop it so i just grabbed the front brake to make sure it was as gentle a drop as it could be (was on a slight incline) and down it went. Got it back up and had that gut wrenching feeling that you do when you damage a new bike but was actually a bit relieved as the only damage was to the bar end, small scuff on the foot peg and small scuff on the brake lever. Nothing bent, fairings were still fine, wing mirror hadn't snapped off the only issue was i think i tripped a sensor because the electronics appeared to have reset themselves (ABS, EBC and traction control reset to '-'), the traction warning light came on and so did the ABS as i rode it home. Parked it for 10 mins went back out and rode it around the neighbourhood for 5 mins and the lights just went out and it rode fine, brake lever worked fine and the electronics were back to the settings they were at before - I did call the dealership and they said i was quite lucky there wasn't real damage and that i probably tripped a sensor because of the drop so should be fine, but thought i would share this anyway just a lesson learned to be extra careful manoeuvring a sport bike at slow speeds. Here's the link to pictures of the damage anyway: https://imgur.com/a/c7ThOzj Anyone else had similar experiences?
We've all been there mate so don't beat yourself up too much. It's a shitter when it's a new bike tho but there's no real damage apart from a bit of pride.
Yep, all done it. The only good thing for many is it tends to be on their early cheap bikes. Gravel was what did it for me at a Junction a little over 10 years ago. Glad you got away fairly unscathed.
A friend of mine’s biking journey was a GS125 to a CBR600 to a ZZR1400, all in about a year from scratch. Those things are massive & he just wasn’t used to the dead weight of a big bike. So on a hill in Wales one day, engine off, straddling it & reversing it into a parking slot, it started to go, funniest thing I’ve seen as he tried to break the fall by leaving his body in the way, instead of stepping off it. Had I not been there, I don’t know how he’d have got out of it because it took all of our combined strength to lift that bastard out off his leg
We've all done it bud, it's part of the journey! Keep your head up! Glad you're ok and it's just little damage
The best thing about dropping your precious is that it lets you relax into "its only a bike" and lose the fear of doing it again, not that want or plan too! Low speed parking drops usually break the crappy Ducati mirrors so you came out ok. Ive dropped mine 3 times in 3 years, 2 lowsides at the track and once on a very steep driveway where I couldnt put my foot down in time. The bike is a bit bruised, has a few carbon repairs to the fairings but now sports folding levers (highly recommended) and CNC engine protectors. Appreciate the gorgeous lounge room display level that some people keep their bikes in but I lean towards the "meh good enough, lets go riding" end of the scale.
