I have been helping a neighbours son who wants to start biking - a good thing. He did his first car park session and found it more tricky than he thought. Low speed cones, clutch and back brake - you know the drill. His mum asked if I could help - did I know anyone with a small (beginner suitable) bike with gears and clutch that he could practice with on a car park? No. But I can ask. I am a bit concerned that this could become a bit of a faff and ongoing commitment from me, but, if i ask the question and it worked out to be easy on all sides, why not? He lives in Reading or Mum is in South Bucks. Anyone in a position to assist on the basis that it may not go anywhere (he may be sorted already for instance - the mum spoke with me a week ago)? Hit me up (see what Im learning by hanging with da yoof). EDIT. The loan would only need to be for a day.
Is this an under 16/17 rider, wouldn’t an experience day be a better option. These options are far away from Reading but gives an idea what’s out there. My lad learnt to ride a motorbike here, about 4-5 hours of riding. https://inchperfecttrials.co.uk/ We later went here but they are also willing to teach people to ride a motorcycle. https://www.trials-school.co.uk/ Not sure what’s closer to you if anything. Only other option I can think of is a CBT based school that may be willing to help?
Speaking of which, when are you going to pull back your Four Skins bike into commission and win a race for the forum?
He did the cbt one day but struggled to use rear brake and clutch slow speed stuff. Think he will make a fine biker
We are a bit of a shower at the moment. ive got two ripped muscles in my shoulder and have just moved house. one of our riders has a broken ankle (nlr). and the bikes been rinsed and in dire need of an overhaul. potentially the next round that isn’t the 24 hour mate… all being well. We need to stop crashing first
I can’t recall the last time I used my rear brake, other than the flat tracking I’ve been doing and trials days. But road bikes probably since my test.
On the road, virtually never. On the track on certain points I use the rear, for example over the bump on the Donny straight I always cover the rear brake pedal (not because I am a riding god, but because I shit myself when the front goes sky high).
C’mon EP don’t hide your riding status from the forum, rumour has it that Ads has a poster of you on his bedroom wall.
These people, https://www.bike2bike.co.uk/, are on Greenham Common, about 15 miles from Reading. Not sure exactly what they are prepared to do but they have small capacity bikes and access to car park space. Andy
