Can someone please measure ... The distance ID between the fairing lowers. (Imagine you want to fit a radiator and will it fit between the lowers) Just need to know if the rad i have will fit on my SS and will clear the lowers. Thanks in advance
Are you talking oil rad? An upper mounted rad or a lower mounted rad?......My fairing isn't on at the moment but my rad is an upper mounted one.......But I can do some fairly accurate guesswork (my job) using pics and the dimensions I already have. But between the forward fairing mounting brackets including the d*mn silly spacers that get lost, it is approx 375mm clear between the inside of the fairing dimples (where the bolts go through).... ......the same clear dimension exists as near as dammit between the lower support struts that are fixed to the engine...no fairing dimples at this point, of course. The fairing wraps around at the front edges and the space decreases, but I doubt if you would be fitting a rad that far forward. The oil rad on mine is roughly a quarter of the horizontal distance between those two points, from the lower struts......I'll get a more accurate dimension of that, if you wish. AL.
Hi Al, Sorry for confusion, it's a radiator as in water cooled ST2 engine fitted in my SS. Just need to make sure the 916 sp alloy rad i have will fit between the fairing lowers This is a older pic as things have moved on since. You can see where the rad sits. Cheers Steve . View attachment 2282
As long as it is behind the upper side fairing mount (on the headlight subframe) I reckon you should be OK.... The fairing sides are relatively parallel when looking from the front, but obviously they rake backwards.............if you can see where the lower support strut should come out of the engine and strike a line between that and the upper mount (guessing...@ 45 degrees) then keep the rad behind that line you should be OK.....if it is less than 375mm wide. If you are hanging it off say, the reg/rec bolt holes and angle it back at the same angle as the reg/rec brackets, I'm sure it will fit....just stick the reg/rec in the nose of the fairing!! AL.
........but don't blame me if it doesn't fit.......liquid cooling an aircooled engine?........might as well run it on coal juice........which we soon will be at the rate things are going..... AL
The ST2 engine is watercooled From the factory Al  http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Radical Ducati/radical_ducati__9.htm
Yes.....I know.......but why liquid cool a simple twin cylinder air-cooled engine? I can understand why a multi is liquid cooled........To me it complicates rather than progresses the development of four stroke engines.......... ......imagine an Enfield Bullet with a rad....... Only pulling your leg, though.....
