  2. Welcome!
What are you aiming to get?

  3. Well I would like to say I was going to be sensible but I am not I have solid budget for a 1098s and will be wanting to be hands on mechanically where I can I am not a total dolt as I do bits bits and bats on the cars and finally have decent sized garage to work on and store a bike

  4. Greetings!

Goodluck with the CBT and Direct Access. They can be a little tricky at certain points so take your time and don't pressure yourself too much.

Before you buy your "Big Boy Toy" make certain you get some solid insurance quotes. Not everyone will insure a newly qualified bike rider on larger cc superbikes (depending on your driving history too) so its worthwhile sorting that sooner than later.

  5. Thanks I had not thought too much about the insurance yet think that will be a job to do this week then, CBT a way off as they are booked up for next two months so plenty time to reel my expectations in and bring the CC's down if I have to :)

  6. I imagine -unless your driving history is wild- is it will be possible to arrange but the price could easily be gut wrenching/ eye watering/ ass clenching/ insane. Best to know before the beast is in your garage.

  7. Thankfully bar a 6 month ban for totting up points 10+ years ago I am clean as a whistle and double digit NCB but I assume those wont count for anything :eyes:

Will see how arse clenching occurs before I start checking 848's out

  10. At the time that thing spent more time with the dealer than it did with me

I didn’t learn I went on to suffer through various Fiat and Alfa Romeo headaches

But yes @Jez900ie made me put my sensible head on last night thankfully

Get quotes before I have to explain why my fancy yellow bike sits in the garage collecting dust

  12. Welcome, I'd ignore 1098S and buy a base 1198 instead.

  13. Cheers, I am looking at various iterations of 848/1098/1198 aside the power difference what is the main factor for 1198 over 1098 or 848 even for that matter? From what I can gather the 848 is quite a bit different from the other two sorry for asking the obvious its all learning for me

  14. Big dollops of torque. All where you can use it too. Best bike Ducati ever made (probably)

  15. Anyone other companies other than Be Moto I can get online quotes from ? Tried 1198/1098/848 would not quote online even dropped to a non Ducati 600 and a 125 still no joy I'm guessing I will need to phone them but would like to try some others tonight

  16. Yes use Go Compare or one of the comparison sites and they will bring up all kinds of options.

BTW I use Bike Sure myself. Never had to claim so I've no idea how good or bad they are should things go tits up. Still they have keen pricing and the people on the phones are OK.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  17. I've got a 1098, its an absolutely terrible idea for a first bike, far too powerful and fast, uncompromised riding position, terrible steering lock, not particularly comfortable to ride.

You might be lucky and not do yourself any harm on one after wobbling about a DAS on an ER6 or bandit, but you won't enjoy it. chances are you'll either be a) far too gung-ho after just passing your test and hurt yourself and the bike or b) be intimidated by it and have nowhere near the level of skill required to extract any of the bike's performance.

I'm not trying to be a condescending so and so, but do yourself a favour and spend a couple of years on a 600.

  18. I am sure I will be fine, I am certainly no shrinking violet and have enough age on me not to be irresponsible but thanks for the advice I will keep it in mind when I finally get on an 1198 :eyes::joy:

  20. In which case I'm sure you'll be destroying knee sliders, backing it into corners and pulling big minger's in no time , good luck with the lessons.
