I have an old car currently on SORN that I'd like to MOT, but don't wish to insure until such time as it's MOT'd. My question is thus: Can I drive said car to MOT station on prior agreement with MOT tester on his trade insurance? Or does the car itself have to have its own insurance - ??? How does the law stand on this?
I will Mervyn, just wanted to see what peeps on here thought first - I have a feeling the MOT tester will say "yeah it's fine bring it over" but I just want to check.
I bet he says no to you driving it. The insurance is for MOT business, not you. What makes you think this is possible?
you need an insurance policy to cover you to drive it on a road at that time.............i doubt the mot place would either a cover you or want to cover you. Whats the problem with insuring it the day before you go out to mot it........surely you are mot'ing it to ride it......
Just checking, I'm sure I recall someone saying it's ok to drive a SORN'd vehicle to an MOT station with their prior agreement and providing it was booked in it was ok. In hindsight I think this might be just for the purposes of the MOT though. Which is why I'm checking! Don't hit me Guv! Thanks for the clarification - I'll get some insurance.
