Can anyone recommend an alternative source for Ducati 7mm valve guides and valves? Mine are shot at 12k
I'm listening in on this too (for a 97 900ss) guides shot after 6k miles. It's now getting out of hand with the oil consumption. Cheers.
Already replaced them to try to extend the time before teardown. But it's becoming clear the guides have to be changed. Alas too many other projects on the go, and the bike is pretty much a daily driver...
K-lining might be a good option? Essentially they insert a liner into the existing guide - less aggressive on fitting as you don't need to hammer them out and supposed to last longer due to the design/materials. I had my Guzzi valve guides done this way as the heads on the Le Mans are known to break easily and definitely no longer available as a spare. I've found in the past that it's cheaper (and possibly?) better to convert car engine guides to fit Ducati's. I run modified Renault guides in my Desmoquatro's with BMW seals. These parts cost pennies compared with genuine Ducati replacement parts and I've not had any premature or catastrophic failures whilst using them. Steve R
Lining valve guides has been around for years in Classic engine rebuilding circles. I've not tried these people but here's a link... www.hthoward.co.uk Steve R
I've had special "Penny on a stick" guides for my Bevel motors in the past. These are then clamped in placed via a grub screw, I think these are similar to those that rich has made. Steve R
