  1. Have you tried blasting that off with switch cleaner?

  2. Hi Nelson, going to clean them up and re solder it.

  3. it's hard to see from picture, so one or more are corroded right through? I had to resolder one connection on a 748 but moisture damage was too far gone to save and faults remained.

  4. You should be able to clean that up using one of these. Once you have the board cleaned up and any joints re-soldered it's a good idea to lacquer over the repaired areas to seal the weather out and prevent further corrosion.

  5. Hi Darren if you still want to borrow an ECU pretty sure I've got a 1.6 on my 748 I can whip it off tonight and you can collect it from my shop in Leeds tomorrow if you like.

    Let me know

    Cheers Clive

  6. Not right through Chris but Im hoping that its a contributing factor of my problems so am going to re solder and see what happens...:)

    Darren.

  7. Thanks Derek, as a spare time modelmaker I have an arsenal of fibre glass pencils and soldering irons!, just the job.....:upyeah:

    Darren.

  8. Thanks Clive, thats much appreciated, Ive soldered up board and am going to try it today so will let you know what happens....

Can the 748 ecu be used on a 996???, can any of you experts out there tell me if it is possible?

    Cheers,

    Daz.

  9. Yup - you'd need to swap the eprom over.

  10. Darren I vaguely recall a similar problem, on this or the other site, which turned out to be an earthing issue somewhere in the headlight region that caused the tacho to occasionally drop to zero.

  11. Result!, now pulls like a school boy!, done a few miles and no issues as yet.

Thanks to everyone for advice and offers of help, it was much appreciated.:upyeah:

    Daz.

  12. Good to hear you got it sorted :upyeah:

  13. Was it the solderizing?

  14. Excellent news. Tricky job to hand re-solder without heat damage to sensitive components!:upyeah:

  15. Well done Darren, get a PCB coating on it (Maplins or RS do an aerosol type) silicone seal the housing lid back on chuck a little bag of silica gel in and gaffa over the rubber bung :upyeah:

  16. let's hope that's done it - I had one bar totally corroded through on a 748 which I had to bend and poke down through the board before soldering but did not cure. :upyeah:

  17. Sorry for late reply everyone, not been on forum for a while, yep all sorted, been on a few trackdays since, booked at Cadwell at end of month...:upyeah:

  18. And yes it was the ECU, after I soldered it up it was fine.

    Darren.

  19. I love a happy ending Darren and this thread will help others when a similar fault persists. The consistency of the cutout revs made me think it could only be ECU other than TPS.
