There's probably a technical term for it but basically can you take a bit of plastic ( from my Monster ) and have it chromium plated ? if so can you recommend anyone...
you are up against a hard one here - yes we know it's possible but finding anyone to do it as an aftermarket job is impossible. I have had 3 stabs at this over the years as I have many car parts that would benefit. Let me know if you find anyone as I can bulk the order up if it helps but either way cost per square cm will be horrendous I believe. EDIT As said above, technically it isn't chrome but a highly reflective coating as applied to many 60/70's motorcars. The 'chrome' spray is a waste of time btw - it's slightly better than standard silver but could never fool anyone that is was chrome-like.
Yes a chrome effect is a better description. Sure I watched something on TV once ( Dragons Den ) where you can pretty much put a gold or chrome effect on anything, think this guy was applying a foil or by some electrical charge onto phone casings, can't remember exactly .... perhaps i'm talking bollox !! but there must be someone out there.
Simple answer, yes you can - various Japanese / oriental scooters have chromed plasic parts (or, more accurately, chrome effect). However - very difficult to find someone to do it for you. Have you considered vinyl wrapping? I have seen a pretty good fake chrome effect done this way...
been there, done that - £250 min charge plus bespoke jig often needs creating which can be around £500 for a car grille for example.
You can chrome anything! Or as said chrome effect if you like to be correct, a mate of mine just closed his shop down "the chrome shop, Petersfield" as too many people in the game and not enough interest, in short his business was spray chrome and they could chrome anything, also it came in many colours too but the raw chrome was no different in looks to electroplating! Tbh it look fantastic and was fairly hard waring too, google spray chrome as the process is worth a watch, fascinating watching water like spray turn to chrome before your eyes! great video, thanks, seen loads of chrome plated plastic, looks the same as metal chromium plate, if cleaned to much it rubs through, but im talking 30 odd years back so im sure things have moved on since then , obviously it dosnt peel like it does on aluminium or rust over time like on metal
Like I say sadly my mate packed it all in, sold the gear and moved on, now looking into setting up aqua dipping....lol Dont know of anyone specifically but I do know it's alive and well in the Uk..
its plastic id be gutted . Chrome effecting over plastic . I had it done for someone it looks like chrome it feels cold ( its basically like what you have in a mirror. But it wears like very expensive!!!! and crap .... 3months and the top coat was off and this was from the most well known people I could find.. very disapointing. Also I believe others have been as disapointed.
