I ride bikes but I have never really felt like a motorcyclist. Not the ones I see generally when I go to Rykers (for a slash mainly). Loomies? Forget it. I dont socialise in a bikey way. I'm still a bit of a scooterist really. I'd sooner chat Northern Soul than Yamahas. The Bike Shed is a bit beardy for me. Whilst the 'scene' is fine, I'ts not really my cup of tea.
I’m inclined to agree to an extent. I don’t do ‘clubs’, mass rideouts, meets etc really. One or two here and there but mainly to meet 2 or 3 mates. I guess some people need something to belong to.
Apologies Michel Couque, I've managed to hijack your thread, but have had some interesting replies. One last thing I will mention in case anyone is considering it, is beware of lending anything to a museum. I had a really tight contract with The NMM when my WWII military canoe went to them, ensuring I would get it back and have access to it at all times. However, I only discovered it had been taken off display and put into their storage facility when a friend visited them and noticed it was not on display any more. They certainly did not contact me and ask if I wanted to collect it. They then took rather too long to locate it for my liking, a couple of weeks, and at one stage it was suggested it had been loaned to another museum without my permission. They did however then send two of their own employees in a van all the way from Falmouth to Hampshire to return it. It's 18'6" long and Aluminium so takes two to lift with it's engine installed. The plan was for it to then go on display at the Portsmouth Naval Museum, but their contract basically meant I was handing it over to them to do what they wanted with and I could only have it back if and when they were finished with it. I didn't let them have it and it's now sadly hidden from public view for me alone to enjoy. So beware if you have anything a Museum may ask you to loan them.
Can relate to the first sentence boots, by whatever means the average persons defines a motorcyclist/biker, I am nothing like one apparently. I think I thought I might be one up until I got talking.
Oh, as this all started with Bike Shed, I Really don't want to be called or associated with being a Hipster.
I don't even know the difference. At a guess, a motorcyclist is more of a traditionalist, and a biker being more modern/trendy.
Trouble is Chris, all these young hipsters put a lot of effort, time, and cash into trying so hard to look like us old buggers.
I think the tipping point is when you start using and indeed enthusiastically talking about beard oils
I've always though of a Biker as a denim cut-off, leather trousers sort of person, and perhaps I used to be one, but what do I know.
I’m nuts about bikes and read, watch and talk about them a lot, but to me I’m just a bloke who rides motorbikes. Most of my shirts are checkered though
A bit too much beard and tatts for my liking, but the Bike Shed Festival at Lydden Hill 2019 was a real laugh. I hope they do it again.
I too went to the Bike shed this weekend - whilst there are plenty of bikes that are not my cup of tea... and plenty that are - the one thing I do admire is the level of ingenuity and build quality that most bikes exhibited there have. And Its nice to actually chat with the builders in person. And @advikav - I didn't see any of these types of people you mention... it attracts a completely different audience!
