An issue with the 1260.... the cooling fans do not seem to be kicking in, even when very high temperatures are reached. The left hand fan turns very freely, but the right much less so - it will spin, but just not all al as freely as the other fan. My thinking is that maybe the resistance on the right hand fan had caused a fuse to blow. So, where would this fuse be, and are there any thoughts on the general overheating problem?
when you say overheating what temps are we talking ?? The fans in the 1200 (and I can’t see the 1260 being massively different if at all ) so t come in till 103-104 deg C The bike runs at around 60-65C so has a lot of head room before the fans cut in
The 'normal' temp I'm getting is in the 60-70 range, but heavy traffic sends it quickly skywards. It once reached the 'HI' warning on the dash, very briefly, but quickly went down again once I was up to a reasonable speed.
in terms of how the cooling system is operating it "sounds" normal, 60-70 then a rapid climb in heavy traffic sounds a fairly typical way of going on, also the fact it drops again as you start to move says to me that the cooling system itself is ok...but you do need to ascertain whether the fans cut in or not, simplist way is to go for a ride then park up with the bike ticking over and watch the tempgauge, the fans should quite distinctly cut in at approx 103C and run till the bike drops back to approx 97C ish the fans are fairly noisy so hard to miss the "Hi" warning on the dash is worrying and it could well be as you say the fans are not operating. if you test it and the fans dont cut in you then need to start checking 1) do the fans work 2) are they plugged in 3) is the fan switch operating 4) is there a feed to it etc etc...... or take it to a dealer....
