Just reading this you're absolutely right....pulled the trigger 2 hours ago on a set of gp4rx's. One of my own mantras is....never skimp on tyres and brakes...last month those old hpks saved me hitting the side of a builders van than turned left on me...
When i get the old HPKs back ill clean them up and reassemble if the pistons are moving freely i would say they would be ok for someone to use for racing?
Looks as though there is quite substantial corrosion around the piston bores and then subsequent degradation of structural integrity due to material loss. Appreciate that it's an expensive exercise to replace them, but they look to be too far gone to place any trust in them, just when you need it. I'm not sure I'd sell them on in that state, even for track use.
Yep - fine, no prob....i will put the pistons, and all the associated bits and pieces on though...stuck the old oem kwak ones on ebay earlier...gotta find the cash now to pay for them...(stuck them on my ebay 0%) - fucking godsent that account is!!
Would that include rebuilding missing alloy..? i did wonder if that could be done..add some alloy onto it and then machine it back down??
Nice one on the gp4RX's, I wouldn't sell, or even give those old ones to anyone else, I wouldn't want it on my conscience if they failed on someone, or got tarted up and sold onto someone who didn't know better. In fact I'd probably drill a hole right through them before putting them in the bin to make sure they could never be put back together
Might reassemble, clean them up and bolt them to the wall in the garage...! My mate dropped a BST wheel which is now bolted to his wall!
Wtf?! You need better performance for racing than road bud! If they are no good for the road, they are only good for the skip. Although, I’m not a metrologist (or whatever they are called) so don’t know why having them cleaned up is an issue for you to use them
It is....must confess i thought theyd last the life of the bike but, hey. theyre almost 30 years old so theyve done well...although only the last 5 years in my ownership...! Looking forward im hoping ill get a performance bump with the new ones....
Ill replace the hightensile bolts with Ti ones....just incase anyone has anything to say the old hpk's had Ti bolts in them and i never had any issues with them atall....i like to keep maintenance and corrosion down to a minimum if i possibly can.
Pulled them apart to give them a quick once over and switch the bolts to Ti. A bit mucky inside but otherwise fine...
Wow...didn't think they could top the hpks but here we are...lovely feel ( i was reading the technical gumph and apparently theres less fluid in them ) - supposed to give more feel....the pads are still bedding into the discs but initially....well, worth the money. Very happy.
