My apologies, in the interests of openness, this has turned into a mega advert. There are pictures of the bike in its current state already on the forum but additional ones can be provided as a DM on request. 2001 Ducati (Ohlins) 748R in original Yellow/White bodywork. This is one of the first UK specification bikes to benefit from Ducati’s revised second generation engine and Ohlins suspension front and rear. It has had 3 previous owners and was acquired by me in April 2013. I rode the bike for about a year before stripping the bike down to use the frame, aluminium rear sub frame and Ohlins forks for the basis of a track bike for my first Spanish track day in March 2014. The original parts (wheels, swing arm, rear shock, tank, seat and bodywork) have been stored in my loft and the engine (wet) stored in my dining room since then. Restoring the bike to its original road legal state was started in March 2020 and after an 18 month hiatus, completed in December 2022, with all the work being carried out by Moto Rapido, Winchester. Before anyone asks, in my ownership, no part of the original bike has sustained accident damage and although I no longer have the report, the checks I made at the time of purchase, everything came back negative. The bike is in very good and mostly original condition, showing very little evidence of its age and mileage. A previous owner/service agent, tie wrapped the speedo drive cable to the left fork leg and although you cannot see it, the gold anodising on the fork leg is locally worn and there is a very small scuff in the paint work on the rear of the mono posta seat unit. The non original items are, K-Tech 9Kg 260 replacement fork springs, a 45/50mm Termignoni, carbon end can, exhaust system, a carbon seat under tray, a carbon rear shock guard, a quick release rear sprocket carrier and a 1098R side stand. The original fork springs, 45mm aluminium exhaust system, plastic seat under tray and OE side stand are included in the sale, as is the original rear paddock stand. The V5C is present and in my name, however, there is an anomaly. It states the date of first registration was the 11/06/2001 which is 2 weeks after the 600 mile service. I have no idea why. I bought the bike with a part dealer history, 2 self certified oil and filter services by the then owner and a service by an independent in Cheltenham. In my ownership, it has had a belt and valve shim service shortly before the bike was laid up in early 2014, a belt service carried out when recommissioning work started in March 2020 and after an 18 month break, further recommissioning work completed in December 2022. That work took approximately 30 man hours with parts replaced as required including full clutch plate pack and tyres. Although in really very good condition, IMO, this is not the sale of a “collector” quality bike, it has been ridden. I have had an offer of £10,500 through a third party but have not made contact or agreed to anything yet. I am happy to consider a very near offer through the forum. Andy
Just noticed the table I set up to detail the service history has all gone to cock but the essence of the info is there. Andy
GLWS Andy, I fancied this as you know, but haven't got all my ducks in a row at the moment and really can't afford a divorce. Take the man's money ASAP and remove the advert so I don't keep seeing it and kicking myself.
Nearly 10 years ago and I cannot find the receipt to confirm. Whoever it was, they didn’t know you put a friction plate in first when re-assembling the OE slipper clutch. Andy
Cheltenham was probably Tim hayett. lovely bike, really well priced. I’d have it in a heartbeat but my r1 hasn’t sold and I’m pretty skint
I'm watching this with interest, timing might not work but if I can sell my R1 quickly I might be seriously interested.
Had a couple of enquiries but no takers as yet. The bike is sat in my dining room where it's warm and dry and I've got plenty to keep me occupied. Andy
Okay cool, I’m not about to mess you around, i need to get the r1 back to road spec and MOT’d. And then sold so I may well miss out but I’ll watch the thread and if it’s available when I’m ready I’ll make contact
Okay, finally got my arse in gear and you'll be seeing an advert in Auto Trader very soon Andy "Private sale, 2001 (Y) Ducati, 748R Mk2 (full Ohlins suspension) in the model year correct Yellow. Odometer shows 8634 miles which I believe to be accurate, 3 previous registered owners and has an MoT until 14th June 2024. There is a good main dealer/independent service history although 2 oil and filter services were carried out by a previous owner. The bike was SORN’d for dry stored by me in March 2014 and brought out of hibernation in December 2022, when 30 hours were spent recommissioning the bike by main dealer, Moto Rapido in Winchester. As the belts are now 6 months old, they were replaced in June this year, again by Moto Rapido. The bike is in very original condition with the exception of K-Tech 9Kg 260 fork springs, a 45mm/50mm exhaust half system with Termignoni 50mm carbon end cans, a carbon seat under tray, a carbon rear shock guard, a Renthal quick release rear sprocket carrier/aluminium rear sprocket and a 1098R side stand. The original fork springs, the OE aluminium 45mm exhaust system, plastic seat under tray and OE side stand are included in the sale, as is the original “rocker” style, rear paddock stand. The overall condition is very good, showing very little evidence of its age and mileage. However, a previous owner/service agent, tie wrapped the speedo drive cable to the left fork leg and although you need to get down close to look, the gold anodising on the fork leg is locally worn. There is a very small boot scuff in the paint work on the rear of the mono seat unit and a wall scrape mark on the left hand mirror. The V5C is present and in my name, however, there is an anomaly. It states the date of first registration was the 11/06/2001 which is 2 weeks after the 600 mile service. I have no idea why. Although in really very good condition, IMO, this is not the sale of a “collector” quality bike, it has been ridden and enjoyed. £11,000 ovno, electronic bank transfer only, however offensive this may be to some, please no daydreamers or tyre kickers and I am not looking to swap for anything else. No test rides and viewing by prior arrangement only. Reason for sale, I’m 6 months off my 70th birthday and at 6’4” tall, I can no longer fold myself comfortably onto the bike." The photos I'll include are these.
Finally advertised in Autotrader ……. Still more than happy to negotiate with someone on the forum. Andy
In a world of crazy prices, where an sps is asking over 16k and people are asking over 10k for 748’s this has to represent the best value at this price point.
I’ve tried to be realistic (with a little wiggle room obviously, I’m selling ) after watching a roughly similar, pre slab side 748R in red, actually sell in the last week, for a tad more. Andy
Might be for some but red is not the year correct colour for a UK spec 2001 Öhlins model …….. we definitely need an anorak hood emoji Andy
The 748R had an even poorer response to my advert than the Panigale V4 Speciale, not one single enquiry. Obviously should have got my arse in gear months earlier but it is what it is, hey ho. Andy
