That’s the daft thing, I offered it to him for £1k less than the dealer ended up giving me for it, as I wanted it to go to someone I knew would look after it properly.
Presume you’ve put a deposit down with the supplying dealer, he’s not going to offer you strong money knowing your committed to the new purchase. When I bought new the difference p/ex value was £3.5k. The 848 SF is desirable, pitch it right, good advert, don’t think you’ll have much problem selling.
Yes deposit down, sold lots of bikes privately and it can be very frustrating, definitely worth a try I reckon and see what kind of response I get will wait until early Feb..
I sold my 999 and the wifes car, both hassle free. Be honest with the advert, I demanded cash for both sales and got it, don't cave in.
Last time I sold privately, I insisted on the buyer being accompanied by a mate and met them at a location a mile away from my house. Both had to bring photo id and we left their car at the location and I drove them to my house. Deal was done in 10 minutes, cash was transferred and I drove them back to their car. Over the top? Maybe, but if any potential buyer wasn’t prepared to do what I asked, the conversation ended there.
We’re all different - I’d rather walk than take public transport and the reason is ‘the public’ - I don’t like them and certainly wouldn’t trust them near my bike. It would be part ex all the way for me.
Px it mate. The dealer may not be interested in matching a similar value to what you'd get privately so, to lessen the impact, take off any trinkets, sell them on here, make the grand you'll lose by going px but happy in the knowledge you'll get a good price overall. Have just done this when I sold my 1098S, px for the Mutley. Good luck.
So the final results are in with 58% voting to part-ex, but I've put it on a couple of forums to sell will test the water and try give someone the opportunity to buy it before the dealer put a hefty mark up on it.
Bit late to the party - Personally I dont tend to do private sales for the security side as mentioned here but I just sold a 2k bike privately but a 20 year old track toy kind of no choice. For other newer road bikes in good order, sold one to wbab and traded one in when I got one of duc's so done them all now. The private one went well, after being sent offers for less than half the starting price (one guy even said "last offer" at a price under half thinking he was doing me a favour!) Almost took it off the market but within a day had people queuing up for it, so should of charged more it seems! Anyway, my point being private prices seem to be doing well at the moment, even in winter so defo worth a punt there if not in a hurry on it
