1098 Anyone Got Experience Of Both 848 And 1098

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Phill748, Feb 10, 2023.

  1. Has anyone spent much time on both these machines? I've owned 2x 848 Evo, and loved them but found them hard to live with, some of it comfort, but for example with the 848 I found the front suspension harsh even when set up.

Has anyone ridden the 848 Evo and the 1098s? is the 1098S motor even worse at low speeds? really chuggy and hard work, or is it weirdly a bit easier because it's a bigger heavier crank? I'd be tempted by a 1098s as a semi-collectable that I could wobble around the odd trackday but prices are already really on the up.

  2. Go 1198s better bike mate

  3. Change to 14t front and not too bad and have huge torque. Still terrible around town. No more or less uncomfortable thank 848.

  4. I love my 1098S but it’s a mare at low revs.

I’m led to believe the 1198 is better, if not a pure analogue bike.

  5. Identical riding position and geometry (as standard, before fiddling/customising set up).

  6. Ah as I thought then! Tbh 1198s prices are getting really steep, I do think the 1198 would be the one to get, maybe if I really decide to go down that route, a 1198 is that bike that is the last of a real line of heritage bikes just like the 998 was.

  7. I think you're right about 1198S prices! I sold mine last year, soon regretted it and thought well, I'll just get another one. Can't believe the (asking) prices now.

  8. you used to be able to get really clean ones for about £9k, I’ve seen shabby ones for £11500

  9. Tell me about it!

  10. Asking price is regularly far higher than selling price…

  11. If you can, wait 12-18 months. Second hand bike (and car) market is overinflated and will almost definitely crash later this year.
