  1. The clutch slave cylinder on my 1998 748 biposto has died.looking at getting an oberon replacement.any one have one fitted to there bike

the bleed niple has snapped of.anyone Know where i can get a replacement from.

    Thanks

  2. can't go wrong with an upgraded cylinder, i have the STM one but they all do the same job, get a slightly oversized one and will lighten the clutch lever slightly.

  3. Hi.thanks.what size would you recommend.?I don't know the size of the original.thanks

  4. Make sure you get the push rod adapter, as yours will have the shorter pushrod.

I wouldn't recommend anything larger than a 28mm piston as the reduced effort comes at the expense of extra lever travel (it's not a miracle cure!) and if the piston is any bigger you may have problems with being able to fully engage the clutch, leading to ropey gear shifts and difficulty finding neutral.

You may be better off replacing yours with the updated Ducati OEM one second hand. This reduces lever pressure by 15% but maintains the 25mm piston size so works fine with all models. You should be able to pick one up for £30-40 and it may even come with a replacement banjo bolt with bleeder.

You would just need to get yourself the push rod adapter - this is no more than a 10mm long piece of 8mm diameter rod that goes into the hole in the slave piston before fitting. I've got plenty if you get stuck, just give me a shout and I can stick one in the post for you.

  5. Mine is either a 29 or 30mm.. they are all much the muchness, just a bit bigger than the original resulting in about a 25-30% reduction in lever resistance.

  6. Yes, that's the one.

Ducati made about 3 or 4 different revisions that are interchangeable. Starting with early ones that leaked, to revised ones with better sealing to the later ones with improved (reduced) lever pull. As long as you get the one with the inset star pattern, and an adapter if your clutch rod sticks out of the engine by LESS than 30mm, then you'll be fine :)

Early types for short clutch push rods ("circle" and "disk"):

    Improved seal version ("Dynamic D"):

Latest version with reduced lever pull ("Star"):

There are loads of the Star type on ebay for under £30, just do a search.

  7. I use an Oberon slave on two of my bikes, no problems whatsoever and very well made. They supply an adapter to fit both lengths of pushrod.

  8. Anyone know what brand etc this one is. No markings what so ever.

  9. I have never seen one like that before, I have an unbranded one on my 998 which I bought several years ago which has never caused any problems.

Some of the Hong Kong\ Chinese slave cylinders now on the market need to be viewed with some care, very variable quality.
