899 Rearset / Swingarm Clearance

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by dmc12, May 24, 2023.

  1. After a mishap involving a runaway car in the Donington paddock yesterday (don’t ask!) I have a query about the normal clearance between the rear pivot of the rear brake and the swingarm on an 899.

Is it usually this tight? The foot peg appears to protrude at (more or less) the right angle.

    Thanks!

  2. If it helps, mine are very close too. In fact, when I took the rear shock & rear wheel off, the swing arm dropped down and marked it against the rearset.

Some pics of my 899 - Sorry if they are not very good.

  5. well, on a downhill section of paddock the 899 acted as a brake for a track car that decided to depart the trailer it arrived on, in an uncontrolled and unscheduled fashion.

Had the 899 not done it’s excellent (but beyond original design brief) braking job, the car would have picked up speed down the hill and cleaned out the 996 and my van beneath it.

So could have been much worse!

  6. I take it you let the owner of said car know the full extent of your thoughts. :)
Glad no real damage done. Bloody cars. Try to have you off even when the bikes stationary and the car is driverless. ;);)

  7. Indeed! Tbh the guy was reasonable (as was I). He didn’t throw any ‘well you shouldn’t have left it there’ BS at me, which I was half expecting. So it should all get sorted out amicably :upyeah:

  10. Thanks @Phill748 - looks like it’s standard for them to be properly close to the swingarm!

Your bike is looking VERY clean too :joy:

  12. What’s going on there?!

  13. I thought it was a failed thermostat housing but doesn't appear to be, have a new one on order anyway, so will put it all back together and if it leaks again, water pump..
