Hi folks, is the problem with lining inside fuel tank on hypermotards fouling the fuel system as bad as the internet is making out , any particular model more prone to it than others, thanks
The new E10 fuel is what is being attributed to it, I need to look up the science to double check this isn't a pile. But a good excuse to only stick super in of I ever heard it.
Cheers Simon, the only Ducati dealer over here denies all knowledge that the problem even exists! , i reccon he’s bullshittin
Im lookin either 2020/2021 sp or more likely rve, just doing a bit of ‘research’ so to speak and this issue pops up quite a bit
We have found that all Ducatis run better on E5 than E10 including newer models, we have been recommending this fuel to all of our customers for a few years now. Although the owners hand books state that modern Ducatis will run on "up to E10" they run like dog shit, rough idle, lumpy mid range and lack lustre at the top end, you will also lose several MPG so any apparent saving at the pump is lost by using more of this cat piss they are trying to sell as petrol! Not to even get started on the catostrophic effects on any plastic petrol tanks, swelling, paint blistering and eventually leaking! Do yourself a favour and seek out petrol stations that stock V-power, Optimax, Super plus etc and if you have to put E10 in just put a minimum amount in to get you to the next fuel stop, I have also found exactly the same thing with our cars so it isn't just a Ducati thing or even a bike thing! Rant over, sorry but we get this so often now and trying to convince people that the extra 5 or 6p a liter is worth it can sometimes be an uphill battle, especially with the current economic climate. As for "lining" tanks, if you don't put corrosive piss in them they don't need lining and you don't have the risk of it failing and flaking off in to your fuel system, I have lined older tanks that were getting porous or had repairs but this was always a last ditch process.
My lad has been running his Aprilia SX50 for 12 months now, mostly he puts E5 in it. When he does use E10 he notices a drop in performance by about 3 mph in top speed and a reduction in his MPG. The saving at the pump is an illusion in his experience.
