2000 996 unused connectors near battery?

  1. Just done the timing belts on my 2000 model 996 bip and the next step will be to start putting everything back on, but ive just noticed what looks like a couple of unused connectors near the battery. Now im pretty sure i didnt unplug anything from there, but im puzzled about them and wondering if ive accidentally pulled something out without realising. Theres a white 2 pin connector which goes into the loom, looks similar to the connectors you use when you plug an optimate in but this goes into the oem ducati loom. Its between the battery & oil cooler. Theres also a smaller black connector, i think 2 pin also just floating about there.

Anyone know what these are for, does anyone else have these and maybe they are just normal?

  2. Hi there, pictures would be good, but one of the connectors sounds like its fallen out of the back of the starter solenoid - probably the white one

  3. Might well be. I`ll take some pix tonight if i get time and upload them. Cheers.

  4. I agree.
Best to put a tie wrap around the solenoid and connector to stop it falling out.

  5. Heres the picture, they are to the right of the battery housing, just near the intercooler on the RH side of the bike. I cant see where either would go on the solonoid though.

  6. It looks like the white plug may have come out of the gold coloured round thing which plugs into a round rubber hole next to the battery & has the HT leads go to the starter. But I cant see anything where the small black connector should go into?

  7. The 'gold coloured round thing' is the starter solenoid and, yes that looks like the connector to it (you'll soon know as the starter won't turn if it's not connected).

The black plug doesn't look like anything Ducati fitted, it maybe a battery charging connector or alarm add-on?

  8. Ah I wondered if that was the solonoid, but im used to car solonoids which are huge! Thanks everyone for your help, looks like most of you knew it was the solonoid lead straight away! Cheers!

Ive just got to change the fuel filter & re-assemble it all then i`ll find out a) if it starts and b) if the cambelts went on properly!!! Fingers crossed.

  9. And ive just done this following your advice as it looks like that white connector doesnt stay in firmly enough.

  10. Probably because most of us have had the connector fall out at some time... :upyeah:

  11. The black connector doesn't look like a Ducati item they use mostly the ampseal type of connection for almost all the wiring apart from things like the fan etc on the other side of the bike. Could be for heated gloves or something like that which has been run directly off the battery, It might be worth tracing the wire to see where it ends up.

  12. Yep, it goes directly into the wiring loom, so i thought it might be left over from something ducati did, but it might be that someone has re-taped the loom. Its got a spyball alarm on it not far from this connector, so it might be something to do with that.

I`ll have another look this evening, but dont fancy ripping open the loom to see where it ends up. Its actually quite a small square connector, smaller than it looks in the photograph, so i dont think it would be used to draw much of a current through. The white connector was like twice the size of this one.

  13. I think you will find the wire may have been taped onto the outside of the loom, the looms are quite easy to work on off the bike but on it would be a different matter,

  14. Well bike started and ran fine at the weekend after I put it all back together, so thats a relief!

  15. That white plug, it has +12v on it and looks like it has a direct connection to the battery. Can this be used for trickle charging?

  16. Is it turbocharged?
