Hey everyone, new Ducati owner here. I recently picked up a 2006 Monster 620 in non running condition. You can read about some of the work I’ve done and the advice I need here - https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/ducati-monster-620-fuel-injector-issues.97357/
You’re 16? I bought my first Ducati when I was sixteen. Well, more precisely my Dad bought it by lending me the £40 to buy a 1971 Mk III 250 in boxes. It took me a year to clean and re-assemble. I needed help with the timing and electrics, but got her on the road in time for my 250cc Learner plate. In my eagerness to get out there I may have overlooked MOT, tax and insurance. Actually I simply didn’t have the money. So when I hit the deck hard on a roundabout generously doused with diesel from a truck tank overflow, things turned bad quite quickly, especially on the home front. I knew how to repair the bike, but the surgery took a lot longer.
Yep I’m 16. How were you able to find a MK III 250 in boxes? I’m sure getting the bike running after building from scratch was unforgettable! Still trying to get mine going but I think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Not all teenagers are angry loners then….. Previous owner had intended to rebuild it, but lost interest. The dismantling saved me some hours and probably lowered the price. That tunnel is long, but in my teens building a bike was far preferable for my parents than hanging out with the kids in the village. I wish I had kept it, but via a Honda Superdream to pass my test, my next bike was a Le Mans. The debt for that one meant I had to get a proper job Damn! I now realkise how cleverly my parents were incentivising and manipulating me to be a grown up.
