using choke for (cold) start

  1. hi all
I might be missing something but how do I use the choke for cold starts? where is the damn thing? thanks F

  2. If it's a Monster 796, it has electronic fuel injection. No choke

  3. I thought so, but a friend who has a 696 suggested I used the choke for cold starts....

  4. Does a 796 still have a fast idle lever? If it has it may be on the inside of the l/h switch block, that's where it is on my bike.

  5. yes that's what (I think) she was referring to. the fast idle lever, but cannot find that either

  6. They don't have one because they have an Idle Control Valve that sorts all this out

  7. so is this specific to the 796? the 696 does have a fast idle lever?
so when I leave the 796 for, say, 2 weeks without using it, or in cold weather, there's no special procedure I can use to facilitate the start?

  8. go to the dealer? he ought to know how it works.

  9. Quite a few have it now (eg my 1198S has it). Just press the starter and away you go.

  10. I have only just bought my bike, it literally just underwent it's 1 year service, and obviously still under warranty. trying to establish if there is an issue as I had a few issues with firing it up. certainly if I don't ride it for a few days. just came back after my summer holidays and the bike was unused for 12 days. it was hard to start it up.
a few (rare) times it also stalls...
please note I don't use any charger but the battery was replaced by the previous owner like 4 months ago.

again, I am very new to Ducati why I am asking

  11. I'm an advocate of battery tenders when the bike is not in use. Due to the electronics on the bike battery charge state is an issue.

If your bike is under warranty and you are having problems then get it checked out by the dealer.

  12. Despite what DJ reckons? I'm moving to his way of thinking TBH having used battery tenders in the past.

  13. supervee, not sure I understand your reply

  14. From what I understand, new Ducatis (like yours) do not have any kind of "choke" or "fast idle" levers - just like modern fuel-injection cars don't. The engine management does it all for you...
And if you use the bike infrequently, a battery tender (Optimate or similar) will make your life a great deal easier

  15. Shouldn't need any choke this time of year, my carbed 600SS fires up first press of the button, no choke required.
