Hi all ! I have a very loud old 996, which has a fenestrated clutch cover, quite a worn clutch and basket, and open Termi pipes. I also have tinnitus, and neighbors, both of which I'd rather not irritate. With that in mind, here is my three-pronged approached to silencing this beast! If you have any of the following that you'd be willing to part with, please let me know! 1: a stock OEM clutch cover 2: an OEM clutch and basket in good condition 3: TER116 Termignoni db-killers like so:
I think later ducati dry clutch covers say from maybe late SSie or sport classics etc are double skinned /have more sound damping than original 90s ones, plus an alloy clutch basket/drive plates should in theory be quieter than a steel set up .
Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I had thought that early ones were thick and later ones were stamped.
I saw a video on YouTube that showed that the dB killers on my Monster 1200S reduced the exhaust noise by 5dB which, I think, means the exhaust is about one third as loud with them in.
I think that if you search the forum there is info on how to make your clutch quiet with a mod. I seem to remember its something to do with the plates, but it wasn't something that I was interested in doing, hence I can't remember the details...
The Quiet clutch mod is a must on any Dry Clutch Ducati I own. It makes the clutch completely silent with the bike idling in neutral, and moves the clatter to only when you pull the lever in. And even then it's less clattery. It basically involves an additional old worn out friction plate right at the back, then careful adjustment of the stack height with different thickness friction and plain plates. There is lots of info on here about it. BUT, note the stack height is critical to get right afterwards. A pile of old worn plates is useful before staring.
