Noticed on the way home yesterday that the travel in my clutch has, just in that one ride, greatly reduced. The biting point used to be really close, but it got down to the point where it was just 1cm away from the bar. Ive replaced the fluid and checked the slave cyclinder, which showed no signs of leaking. This morning it seemed fine, but when I got to work, the level was back to being soft, so much so, that the plates are barely separating. Any ideas?
Have you bleed it from the top/MC? If it doesn't have a nip, just crack open the banjo, rags over your precious of course!
Hmmm - other end ok? Big nut not coming off? My old 848 went a bit weird once, took the slave off and greased the rod end and reassembled, was all good after. Might be worth a go go...
I'd have gone with Nelson and said bleed the master cylinder thru. If the lever returns, then goes again, probably going to be master cylinder. If it was the older slave cylinder i'd have gone for that but the newer stuff seems pretty reliable.
Yep, this was a compressed air bleed, ie hook up the compressor and suck it all out, repeat, refill, repeat, refill
As we (my mechanic and I) cant see any good reason why it isnt working, its back at the dealers under investigation. So I asked if there was anyway I could get a demo bike until it was ready. They said sure no problem This is what I took into the dealership today (whilst wearing full kit I may add) and this is what Ive got for the next few days Dont get me wrong, Im glad that ive been given a mode of transport, but riding it has confirmed one feeling. I never want to own a scooter  God I want my bike back so badly. There is no way im heading up to Silverstone on this :frown:
What's wrong with you it's the same colour and you could probably get in the pensioners parking at silverstone !
It was the clutch slave cylinder. Replacement has fixed it and hopefully that is going to be the last thing to break this year
f##k, f@#k, Faaarrrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!! Right, where was I. So I went out for a ride this afternoon with my now newly fixed bike. I know, I thought, I'll head out for 45mins grab a coffee, a sarnie and look at the local tottie, head home and be happy. Well, it took four miles before the clutch lost pressure again (this is with the freshly replaced slave cylinder), to a very hasty (mostly angry) loop back around via some dual carriageways back to the dealers who looked rather surprised to see me. Still doesnt work I say. Okay not a problem, the fault must be in the master cylinder; We'll replace that for you at no charge (as the slave wasn't faulty in the first place). Great stuff, smiles all round. All back together and off I pop, back to my local High Street this time for the aforementioned coffee/sarnie/tottie combo. It took less than two miles for the clutch to loose pressure this time, so I turned around and headed back. About half a mile away from my desination, I was able to have the clutch pulled all the way in and still be able get drive from the engine, this led to the inevitable stall at the next see of lights. I couldnt get it out of gear, nor start it in gear as it was lurching forward, so the local drunk bloke on the bench outside Tesco got to see me freewheel it across the pavement, onto the service road and back to the dealer, all whilst sat in the sun drinking his Tennent's Super T. You should have seen the dealers face, he couldn't believe it. So to conclude. Like Thursday, I started the day with a Ducati and ended it with an Xmax parked in my garage. Not the best biking day, but not my worst either.
Well its looking very likely, that for whatever reason and at some point, the engine has melted my clutch hose. Being sorted now so should be back on the road fairly shortly. Admittedly not the fluid contamination I was expecting
