Bomb Syria?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by gliddofglood, Aug 29, 2013.

  1. The vast majority in the middle east are still living in the 11th Century and appear to have no wish to change this, in fact they would like to drag the rest of us back there. Leave them to it is what I say. There are no Good guys involved. Both sides will carry on regardless of how many of their own children die. As for the gas attack, its got Al Qaeda written all over it. If Assad is defeated, Syria will become nothing more than a Islamic terrorist training centre, as Iraq has. Saddam knew how to rule these people, we don't, keep out of it.

  2. No good can come from sticking our nose in where it does not belong. Either, and/or BOTH sides may be responsible for gas attacks. The US and UK going in will just add to the problems. Just what exactly would we strike?? Its not like we have a good record for improving the situation over that part of the world!
IMO we will be seen as interfering aggressors (again) in world events not on our doorstep again, and it would be true.

As to ''evidence'', I hope to fcuk we have learned from previous experience not to believe what we are told. Blair liar anyone? With all the satellites spying from above I find it funny that military movement in that area of the world will not have been tracked..

Should we? should we not? Definitely not.

  3. Are those Leopard 2s?

  4. im happily going to declare my ignorance concerning the minutiae of this topic.

over the years, ive grown utterly sick and tired of these religious, brain dead cultures murdering each other in the name of peace and believing in the wrong fairy story...all cloaked beneath a veneer of 'politics'.

How many more hospitals have to get bombed, how many more babies killed, how many more lives wrecked..it will never end..bomb them, dont bomb them it will make no difference..its simply another chapter in the never ending saga.

If the technology existed, id say build a 10,000ft high wall around the entire region, put a radiation proof dome over the fkr and let them duke it out until theres only a few left.

sorry, but f*ck em..all of them.

its the 'too young for the brainwashing to begin' babies and kiddies i feel sorry for who will join the ranks of unenlightened and mentally ill adults, contaminated with the virus of religion.

  5. Just a few observations, opinions and questions

Nobel peace prize winner stupidly said some nonsense about chemical weapons being a game changer. Google what he actually said, very vague and terrible text but having drawn a line (fuzzily) if he does nothing nobody will believe he will ever act and then what will Iran or N Korea do ?
Why is killing 100000 people conventionally apparently less critical to some countries than killing 1% of that number chemically ?
What strange bedfellows George Galloway and Nigel Farage make.
How can anyone believe any evidence after the Iraq nonsense ?
Lastly, i know it is an old cliche but surely" the definition of madness is to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome" applies here.

  6. Money?
Perhaps help them rebuild their infrastructure with lucrative contracts...? you know, stuff like that..maybe if we ally ourselves with some of our international 'friends' we can slice up the pie and help spread a largely american economic empire?

  7. I know they're tanks because they've got tracks and a big gun at one end. That's about the sum total of my military hardware knowledge. Plenty of military types on here though. Bet someone knows.

  8. Commons have rejected military intervention. Once bitten twice shy?

Bit of a result. Glad people are wising up.

  9. You are away for a couple of days and look at what you have missed.

Syria is essentially a Sunni vs Shia conflict and as such we have no reason to interfere.

Practically every country and commentator has looked at the problem from a very partisan viewpoint with self interest being their primary concern.

Just what is in the interests of the UK ?

The idea of going to the UN and asking for a resolution to take all reasonable steps to protect the civilian population is just woolly thinking, and it will never be passed.

Obama is taking a hard line stance just to look tough.

  10. Dave has screwed up big time. As a real statesman he should have told Obama that nothing could be done before due process had been followed and the evidence in. By trying to jump the gun and forcing a vote that should never have happened and losing it, he does look clueless, naive, out of touch with the country he is supposed to be leading, and weak. Not a good night for him.

I suspect that Boris' star is rising - so long as he keeps schtum on the subject (or he'll put his foot in it).

  11. And when you try to suggest that bombing someone is not taking sides... Wtf? You don't have to have been a member of an Oxbridge debating team to see that that is just a patently absurd argument. Fail.

  12. some one has got to stop them using chemical weapons on children !! cant just watch and do nothing !

like walking pass a injured biker and ignoring him

  15. The 2 problems are:

Are we 100% sure it was Assad? Cos you'd better be before you start bombing someone.

What can you do about it? What will more bombs and missiles ( with surely innocent lives lost) achieve? And what are the consequences of lobbing a big one into a pile of sarin (assuming they even know where it is) in a potentially built up area.?

When even Douglas Turd in the Lords voices these concerns you have to think that the situation doesn't call for knee jerk military action.

  16. Is that better or worse than John Major & Edwina Curry?

  17. I was thinking the same thing last night, I'm pretty sure the only way to deal with chemical agents like that is to use something that would explode with intense heat so to literally vaporise the stuff.

If in a built up area there would no doubt be huge civilian loss.

  18. 100% sure? No intelligence information is ever 100% sure. No military operation can ever be 100% certain of success. Political judgments are not 100% certain either. Courts have to be sure of guilt beyond reasonable doubt, not 100% sure. Outside of logic and mathematics, the only place you find 100% certainty is inside the minds of religious fanatics. Everyone else has to exercise judgment and balance out a cloud of probabilities. So the implication of setting the bar at 100% certainty is to guarantee permanent inaction. It is a recipe for paralysis. Is that really what you want to argue for?

  19. Not me, I actually respect the decisive action and not the hours of bollox the the commons churns out in its current state.

But then again I've not voted for any of our great leaders for about a decade based on actually wanting them to lead us, I've only voted to stop the worse choice getting in power.

Its a shit state of affairs.

Our little country is being ran by pompous buffoons who the vast majority of which have lead a very privileged life, come from Cambridge or Oxford Uni and are generally only in politics for their own 'careers' not the people of the country.

My view is always a referendum on such serious matters as these, but whilst not 'PC' I'd also only offer the vote to British Born nationals, give a window of time and if it matters to you then you vote.

    our choice and our view

  20. Best stay out of it as far as I am concerned. Time we learnt to stop interfering in other countries business and trying to play the colonial power. It's not bright and its not clever.
