Power Commanders

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Ivor, Aug 9, 2024.

  1. When I first started doing track days, fitted power commanders to the 996 and 999, are they any use anymore ( they've long been removed) or are they for the bin

  2. Some people still use them. I have one on my 996/1098 hybrid. Mine is an old non-usb one that is pretty useless if I want to remap as it needs an old computer with a specific connector. Whereas the usb one is still fairly simple to connect and use. If you want to get rid of the 996 one and it’s the usb type I’d be interested in it?

  3. It's yours, I'll check for usb, and send a photo,

  6. I'll check over the weekend, I'm sure one is a power commander III

  7. Just pm me as and when and I’ll give you my details, thanks.

  8. I have USB versions on my 999, M1000, and 1000SS Mongral.

I actually enjoy the thought process behind modifying the map, but they are a bit of a bodge in truth.

  9. I've got one on a M800 monster, we ended up putting a race ECU in to bypass the 'immobiliser' circuit in the clocks ( which I threw away as they were broken) , had forgotten about that one, had tried playing with the map in that but I've no idea what I'm doing , the others were mapped by guys using a Dyno

  11. I have a PC-5 that was removed from my 1198SP after less than 2k miles following an ECU remap, that hasn't been used since removal. While it would probably need alternative maps for other applications, I think they are available:
    https://dynojet.co.uk/ .
I don't know what's involved with obtaining and applying new maps, so couldn't help with that.
If anyone is interested let me know, and I'll search for it in the garage.
    Tom.

  12. There are lots of base maps available on the Dynojet website(at least last time I looked).
Often several for each bike, with just an exhaust change, Exhaust + Filter etc.

It's just a case of uploading them to a laptop and and then loading them to the PC.

The map is then simply a load of sites mapping Throttle position against revs where you can + or - the amount of fuel you want.

As I mentioned it can be very satisfying to play with, but is a bodge.
The only way to get a perfect result is to have somebody do exactly the same process on the map in the standard ECU whilst the bike is on a Dyno.

Below is one of the 'Maps' I uploaded from the site for my M1000 which I then had a play with.
Note the mods at the bottom the base map is aimed at.

  13. There was already a PCV fitted on my 2010 Hypermotard 1100 Evo when I bought it along with other mods inc the 'Race' ECU: I have had the bike re-tuned on a dyno and it goes okay BUT if I was to start from scratch I would junk the PCV and just get a remap for the ECU as these seem to work at least as well if not better.

  14. Power commanders annd their like are considered “old tech” these days being replaced by ecu mapping.
But. I enquired about a full system and remap last week for my 2023 Street Triple 765. Apparently the bike has yet to appear as an option on the Woolwich system (it stops at the 2022 bike) and I am lead to believe the ECU is encrypted.
The solution offered was to fit a power commander and map that. Not viable economically for me so ditched the idea.
Newer bikes appear to be increasingly difficult to change anything that might affect emissions. This model year also has a complete one piece system so no end cans unless you want to resort to cutting the original system (or fit prior year headers).

  15. Any point in one of these or a Rapidbike on a 2015 Multistrada? Fuelling could do with improvement...
