Hi Folks, i don`t really get much time to ride my 1299, but it was the Copdock motorbike show today, so got her out, bit slow to start but i put that down to not being ridden much , rode about a mile to meet mates at maccy d, no problems, come out of maccy d 40 mins later went to start the bike and it was slow starting and then suddenly it kicked in but loads of black oily smoke come pouring out, so turned it off straight away and pushed the bike home, as you can see from the picture that there is a small oil puddle, the bikes only got 4000 miles on it, has anyone got any clue as to what it could be, many thanks in advance.
first thing get the fairings off and have good look, could be something simple like a clip, i know FA about bikes, but in the past i have panicked and assumed the worst many times when it turns out to be a fuse, loose bolt, battery etc
Thanks for the reply's, got the fairing of now and tomorrow i have the day off so i will have a good look around. thanks
And dripping onto the exhaust? I had a similar situation with my 916, had a leak through the clutch pushrod oil seal. Nothing noticeable whilst riding but when left parked a while, oil would drip through the (open) clutch onto the front cylinder exhaust and I'd get clouds of smoke once started up plus, the clutch would slip for a few miles until it burnt off the oil.
Hi Jimmy, thanks for that reply, that`s what i hope is going on, it would make sense as the little oil puddle is directly under the oil cooler, taken all the fairing off but cant see the oil cooler, so guessing i will have to take all the front radiator covers, ect off, once again big thanks
