Ducati Branding........a step too far?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by El Toro, Sep 4, 2013.

  1. Kids have Ducati branded gear at school.

Kids grow up and start to think about the things they lusted after as kids.

Seems like smart marketing to me.

  2. No wonder theyve had no development funds for MGP over the last few years. The R&D was being spent on marketing School accessories.

  3. If they use the revenue they receive by selling tat to develop their race bikes, I'd be happy. Mind you, they'd need to sell a helluva lot of pencils and sharpeners to improve the MotoGP bike !

  8. Typical shite from marketing. I bet this rubbish has generated loads of excess and obsolete inventory for Ducati.

  9. Corrected for you

  10. Marketing gets a hard time (as always. Marketeers are up there with bankers and estate agents as despised professionals). But look at it this way - how many brands do you remember from your youth - before you were old enough to actually buy or use them?

10 years is not a long time - my bike is already 7 years old and I've owned Ducatis for 28 years. The back-to-school 12 year old will be a 22 year old in that timeframe - maybe getting his (or her) first 600 Monster Dark.

The cost of having a bit of branded tat made in China is minimal. This is surely just a marketing exercise - not meant to contribute to the bottom line. But as I say, it would be cooler to have Ducati Corse iPhone 5 covers. Perhaps you can already get one - haven't looked.

The only downside is going to be when the Chinese rip off the logos and start producing all sorts of weird Ducati branded tat that was never sanctioned by the company - like cheapo plastic watches, or naff jewellery. But it's almost certainly already available in the markets of Bangkok.

  11. It is long overdue that they did this sort of marketing

I showed my 13 year old last night and he was really excited about the idea of his own ducati pencil case and other school stuff

Like all 13 year old kids he is big into fast cars and bikes and it helps him identify with the brand amongst his peers. From Ducati themselves its a good idea because they are catching him young and making sure he is aware and aspires to ownership

About 4 years ago John at Duc Leeds gave my son a miniature superbike model and a couple of posters. Top bloke. My son was thrilled and they occupy a part of his wall and desk still

  12. It's a lot easier to market to kids. Their little brains are soft and unformed and more malleable. They haven't become old and cynical and able to see through the marketeers' subversive tactics. I'd be willing to bet that £1 spend on kids marketing is a lot more profitable than £1 spent on adult marketing. Just don't expect to see the results overnight.

  13. "Marketing" Ducatis to children via pencil cases, etc is a lot more moral than marketing the latest toy craze/fizzy drink/etc.

The Ducati represents an aspiration whereas the latest toy/whatever becomes the "must-have" rod that the child beats his parents with

  14. Hear hear!

Unless, or course, the little blighter starts whinging because he hasn't got a Ducati pocket bike.

Mind you, I soon found out where any whinging on my part for new stuff ended up . A thwack with a slipper on the bum.
    So I didn't whinge.

  15. You had it so easy. I was locked in a dank, dark dungeon for weeks at a time, just for showing interest in the latest fad

  16. desperately sad....

nothing worse than having a logo (particularly a corporate logo) tatooed on yerself...sorry, but its fkn stupid and meaningless...in some ways its says as much negative about the person as having a friggin swastika on their forehead....ie...fkn dim.

no offence to anyone on here who might have Ducati Corse, Apple, Nike etc on their bellends, or Netto Economy Fishcakes across their stomachs.

  17. Phew....................you didn't mention the Aldi logo I have on my bawbag (as they say in jockanese)

  18. Was your house made out of gingerbread?
