It’s that time of year again, started my least favourite job this afternoon. Pulling together figures in preparation to fill in an HMRC Self Assessment tax return for the ‘24/‘25 tax year. Why I’m still submitting self assessment tax returns 8 years after I retired, no one at HMRC can explain and no one is prepared to agree I no longer need to. They know how much my occupational pension is and they know what my state pension is. Add the two figures, take my tax allowance off, divide the figure by 12 and take that figure out of my occupational pension every month to pay my tax. It’s not rocket science, I had sufficient understanding of basic arithmetic to do the calculation by the time I was 7 or 8. Andy
Tickets booked for Japan Heathrow to Tokyo Narita airport via Hong Kong. Just fitting the pedal cycle up for the arduous journey from South to North, well as far as I can get in 3 weeks then bullet train back to Tokyo Kyoto and then Hiroshima for a spot of seeing sites.
My day just got wonderful…. Just had a call from someone who attended the council public meeting on the planning application the rats next door put in and it’s been unanimously rejected by a vote. They will appeal but for now….yeeeeeeessss!!!
I assume you've visited your personal tax account page on the gov website? If not, there's a 'do I need to submit a tax return' test. Worth a try if you haven't...
Yes, tried that twice and despite the result stating I don’t need to submit, I continue to get annual reminders to submit a tax return …….. or else. HMRC are in such deep sh1t currently, I see no prospect of changing what has become the status quo. Andy

If the check says you no longer need a return, don't you just need to fill in the online form? This is what I did when I went from freelance to permanent employment.
Ordered these as I might as well change them while I'm doing the eldor coil swap. The coils haven't been dispatched as of yet.
That says you've done the first part (established you no longer need to complete a return), but not that you've submitted the form to ask to be removed/close your account. I'd have thought the second part wasn't necessary, but that's the process.
Lawnmower saw the first light of day for the year this morning.
