I snapped three bolts, thinking I was torquing them up. I'm super annoyed with myself. What is the torque setting for these? I had my wrench set at 32Nm.
I have no experience with wet clutches however the equivalent fasteners on a dry clutch would be just ‘nipped up’. The basket attachment fasteners would be around 35Nm.
Yes, that sounds like the bolts for the basket itself, I remember thats 34ish. The spring bolts on the dry clutch are only 7 or 8 nm, these will likely be similar.
I thought it was the torque wench clicking. It’s only after I finished and stood back did a head drop off.
Managed to unpick the broken bolts in situ and grab them with some pliers. New bolts ordered and fitted. Just nipped up until they take up the slack and then given a quarter of a turn.
Me again. Do you think this clutch basket looks okay, or is it protruding too far out? I'm wondering if I need to torque those bolts further or if the current position is sufficient. I forgot to take a photo at the start before I made any changes so that I could compare.
I would advise looking at a workshop manual. Don’t just keep torquing them otherwise something may snap (again).
5Nm - so not a lot. https://www.ducati.ms/threads/clutch-spring-tension.69922/ No mention in the Haynes manual, I misread it last time and had my wrench set to 34Nm. The service manual does not have it listed either.
Is there a different torque for a wet clutch (as the link is for a dry one)? Just askin' as I don't know...
Just a guess, but I think the torque setting is based on how much the bolt can take, and with small ones in aluminium its not too much (nipped up) or less than 10lbs -unless someone knows different. My KTM is a wet clutch and the torque setting was 7lbs
That's a dry clutch - there's loads of knowledge on those on the site. Yours is a wet clutch so not necessarily the same at all. There must be someone out there who can provide reliable advice??
