Obdstar Users

  1. With you on the job I’d expect it would be, here 2+ weeks on. . Where did you come out on it with those odd reading combinations? Hopefully just an “oops” in the OBDStar code easily rectified.
    All the best,
    Dave G.

  2. As Bumpkin attested to in his post last year on this thread, it seems that recent updates have made auto identifying a bike using its VIN, cease to work on the OBDStar. Instead you have to select an appropriate model that is, if not the exact same variant, then one close to it, in my case the Panigale V4 Eur 5. Also the bleutooth enable/disable function has disappeared from the "Special Functions" sub menu. You now have to root around the architecture of the software to find the COBO unit and check or uncheck it to activate bluetooth and to verify it is tied to the correct VIN. I put out a bunch of error codes and the oil service light with ease, so for that alone it's worth it's weight in gold.

  3. Fairly certain it’s erroneous readings emanating from his TPS track sensors and the OBDStar is reporting the voltages as it sees them but the voltages are not what they should be.

  4. Oddly enough the automatic VIN identification is now working with my unit again...

  5. Don’t suppose there’s anyone close to Chester with an obdstar fancy earning a beer, or 2?

  6. Hi I've just bought one of these for my 2012 Panigale 1199 S. I'm still waiting for it to arrive, my concern is my bike has the full termi upmap (Racing Evo) does anyone know if I will lose this by connecting the iScan? I've read lots of horror stories of people losing the upmap with the JPDiag/MelcoDiag software. I also don't have the upmap dongle to back up the map to.
    Thank you

  7. Pretty sure that updating the bike firmware is where there's a risk of overwriting the upmap. This is the sort of thing your dealer would do. The OBDStar, and for that matter JPDiag, don't do that.

Where are you buying your unit from? If from BMDiag then ask them, very knowledgeable and should be able to give you a definative answer.

  8. Thanks for getting back to me I definitely know that JPDiag/MelcoDiag is a problem (Google JPDiag/MelcoDiag upmap lost) I bought it from the OBDSTAR website and it said it was posted from the UK
    Thanks

  9. Looking at a Google search on the matter I stand corrected. Sounds like a can of worms.

When you say "I bought it from the OBDSTAR website" I think this is just a vendor rather than the manufacturer, albeit with a domain name with 'obdstar' in it. Hopefully they are knowledgeable enough to reply with some authority on this issue.

  10. Hi there. Sorry to jump in on this post. I have recently purchased a2019 V4S Speciale and looking for a recommended diagnostic tool as I have alight on already. This OBDStar seems to be the most popular. Looking at the questions asked from people on the website seems to be a lot of no its can't do that answers. Is this tool the best option and im also hoping to get the bluetooth module and switch that on. Any advice would be much appreciated.

  11. These are the functions that the OBDStar can perform on the MY18 Panigale V4 E4 model

Suggest that you download the latest functions spreadsheet and have a look. Go here and click the Function Manual button part way down the page.

  12. Very much appreciated for that. seems a lot better and does a lot more functions than first thought. seems like I'll need to invest in one of these then. Thank you

  13. IMHO best, in the UK, to order from is BMDiag. They're apparently the official UK importer and offer good support. I got mine from there and they were very helpful both before and after purchase. A little more than ordering from outfits in the far east but worth the extra.

  14. They seem to be a little more expensive than going to OBDstar uk website? Sorry to seem clueless but looking at that information you shared of what it can do am I right in saying that the systems like ABS, Activations, BBS, Bluetooth, Code, Meter, Engine etc are just the different systems read on the ECU and whatever is highlighted to the right of these systems is what the OBD star tool can access and do?

  15. BM Diag may be slightly more expensive than the OBDStar ‘uk’ web site and that’s because whilst the site may be a uk domain you’ll actually be buying the device direct from OBDStar in China so good luck with any support or technical questions you may have post purchase.

  16. You also get 18 months free updates £285

    obdstar-iscan-for-ducati-motorcycle-diagnostic-tool.html
not sure which one of these two I need though

  17. Fair enough I understand your point

  18. I'd like to think BMDiag would be helpful whether you bought it from them or not if they are an agent of the equipment. £65 is a fair bit of difference and 6 months less free updates.

  19. Y
You’ll need the interface cable as well as the device.

The BMDiag offering, whilst being £70 more expensive comes with interface cables for EU4 bikes, both 4 pin & 3 pin, and Eu5 bikes. Kind of future proofs you and you get an English speaker on the end of the phone for post sales support (I don’t work for BMDiag btw, just trying to save you some heartache/frustration down the road).

  20. There’s nothing in it for them though, they didn’t make anything on the sale and wont get paid by China for any post sales support, you wouldn’t be their customer.

Frankly I question the business ethics of a company that expects a reseller to purchase items in bulk, and hold stock, and train their staff for support, in order to get a discount and then offers the exact same items to the retailers customers via a direct sales web site at prices which undercut their own retailer.
