  6. The SPS came with Termignoni Carbon cans as part of the package. Many dealers took the cans and sold them separately, along with the appropriate chip.

If you want originality, then that is what was supplied from new.

  7. I am uncertain whether the standard exhaust system for the 748 SPS was 45mm throughout or had a 45/50 midpipe leading up to 50mm cans.

From the official factory’s leaflets and technical data sheets (follow below), it appears that the 748 SPS was supplied at the point of sale with the standard stainless-steel cans. If the carbon cans are missing from the parts manual of the 748 SPS (can’t seem to readily find a reliable version of it online), that in itself is a pretty solid indication that the carbon Termignoni cans were not bundled with it at the point of sale (as was the case with other models) but offered seperately as an option from the Ducati Performance catalogue.

You should be able to find (with relative ease) 45mm and 50mm Termignoni carbon cans in good condition (if not new) yet the all-important pairing eprom would require some time and research to source (at least in original format).

  8. Thanks for all of your help guys it’s much appreciated. So the cans that came with my bike are carbon? But they look to me like someone had tried to make them look like the aftermarket Termi’s. So on the outlet it’s the same as the chap above me posted, they have a little baffle/insert. Basically if they are original then great, however I would still like some aftermarket ones as well if anyone has any!

  9. The standard exhaust was 45mm in the UK. It may have been different in other countries. The bike also came with a Yellow dust cover, unique to the SPS.

The handbook was also unique as it only covered that model and no other 748's.

The temp gauge also differed between models sold in other countries.

  10. @Kinger146 the carbon cans in your picture don't look right for carbon Termi's but better pictures would help.

  11. The original Termignoni's did not have stickers on them; they were carbon and had no baffles.

Also, your clutch lever and presumably your brake lever are incorrect for the bike. They were Grey in colour, not silver like most other models.

You also seem to have a numberboard on the fairing, they didn't have that either

  12. The original carbon Termignoni's were more highly polished on the end caps etc. which made them look slightly different, later aftermarket ones seem to use a slightly different material.

The ECU looks like it is mounted differently, as mine just sits on rubber mounts and doesn't seem to have what looks like some sort of top plate like yours, i could be wrong without a closer look.

Does yours have a rubber bung on top of the ECU to enable direct access to the Eprom?

  13. That front fairing is going in the bin, it’s a nasty carbon fibre piece. I have the original one going back on. But thanks for the help on the pipes, that solves it for me!

  14. My pipes are very highly polished on the outlet and the back of the cans, however they have a baffle/insert so I imagine someone has got the autosol out. Regarding the ECU I believe it’s all standard, it has the correct subframe etc so don’t see why it would be any different? I’ve only just got it so I’m going through it before it comes out.

  15. If it were ever used for a trackday, it may have a baffle fitted, unless someone wanted it quieter for road use, which is unusual. My track bike is a 748S with a 748R engine, and it has adjustable removable baffles fitted in Carbon Termignoni's.

They are fitted with a small screw through the body into the baffle.

  16. That's not an original SP. They never had 5 spoke Marchesini wheels only the later 3 spoke gold wheels. The bike appears to have a carbon airbox or airbox sides, or has been painted differently, it's hard to tell. It's got Termignoni stickers on the exhausts and these didn't have them when new.

The brake calipers are 45mm spacing and the SPS was 65mm which made it one of the first bikes to have them.

It has a carbon front radiator cover, the SPS was plastic and Yellow. The rear sprocket is a replacement as it would be steel and therefore silver.

What is correct is that the mirrors are black and the levers are the correct grey colour and the Gold stand is also correct for the SPS as it came supplied with the bike.

I am assuming someone kept the box as part of the provenance of the bike.

It also appears this bike came via the US, which is odd. The shipping sticker states it came via LAX.

  17. @Red998 you are right on your comments as regards the extra parts (the period and model correct parts appear in the pictures of that listing anyhow) thus why I mentioned that this "would be a good guide on what the stock SPS looked like under the fairings" only.

  18. Looking at the picture of the SPS brochure and the OP's bike, it appears that both have the 45-50mm mid section, unless there was a 45mm mid-pipe without the 'bulge' in it?
