That was so amateurish today and I haven’t watched bsb in a while. Looked like a cycle peloton with nowhere to go if someone crashed. So many riders with such a narrow bit of tarmac.
Not good. Explains why I can’t find any day2 stuff on TNT. Hoping nobody seriously hurt. 55 on the grid is insane.
I mentioned earlier in the thread that it looked like a televised track day and maybe I’m just used to watching moto gp wsb but that really looked like an accident waiting to happen this weekend sorry to say it but BSB is fucked and it deserves to be.
Each circuit is inspected and given a number of riders it is deemed appropriate to race with which cannot be exceeded. Depending on the width and various other factors this will vary from circuit to circuit. Bad day all the same.
Think some of the comments above are harsh. It’s well run on tight tracks that breed fun events because they aren’t the big, Silverstone type circuits. Each track is graded for number of starters, and can vary. Terrible incident, with 3 on a row it makes far more room than 4 that it used to be. The crash today looked really unusual, skittles that resulted in several prone in mid pack and mid track. Having been in the middle or one or two myself, luck and instinct take over and you make it, or you don’t. Very best of luck to those involved and hope the comment above is wrong about a fatality, but fear it’s not.
Please do not speculate or believe social media at the monent, there will be a formal press release after an investigation. The mood here in the marshal's and medic's camp site is subdued. Those that know, cannot discuss it because if the legal side of the incident. One thing for sure, it will cast a dark shadow over Donington Andy
I hope it’s not true re: the fatality either but came from within the paddock. I don’t think BSB is fooked, nor does it deserve to be. However, I think the grid sizes are OTT and hope they are revised. That said if it was the first 4 rows in that pile-up, a grid of 12 would have been too many.
Unfortunate incident, they could do split starts like for example they do at Bemsee for different classes and just have a sort of top 20 in qualifying get onto grid one, then a 10 second gap then the rest go, but tbh if you let 20 go and the leader high sides you still have 19 riders following so you can’t account for every scenario. Racing is dangerous. Thoughts and prayers with everyone
Very sad news. RIP, bloody dark day for the sport. Let’s not over react and speculate it’s just an incredibly unfortunate and sad event. Thoughts are with everyone involved
