My old bird is about £400 tax, and ins went up then down again last two years. Way less to insure than tax, and I keep in garage but insure as if on the drive I spent £1800 last year having it ‘recommissioned’ a little as had a leaky rad, tip gearbox oil change, few other things to make it more likely to be reliable. Then did 200 miles and stuck back in the garage
I live close to a main road and plenty of bikers up and down every day Some speed up and down and I dread the day I hear a big bang as im not far away from a junction Love hearing the ride out groups go by
I’m not saying it’s stopped, but it’s noticeably less. And whenever I see a gaggle of sports (super) bikes pulling in for some petrol, and they pull their lids off, they’re all old farts like me. The average age is around 60! Not good for continuation. And my hearings fine btw I have to have an audiogram annually. I work on noisy equipment…
You are, of course, correct. I’ve been encouraging as many of da yoof to get on two wheels for decades now. It’s a pastime/sport/hobby/necessity in decline I’m afraid.
In another 15-20 years motorbikes will probably be a rarely seen novelty and a surprise to see them out & about. Most of the riders (us) will be playing bingo in a care home -if we're lucky!
I’ve done quite a bit of riding, almost all of it off road on my Gas Gas, but I can’t put a figure on it as the speedo/odo is fucked (they all do that, sir). I’ve put quite a few miles on my Mini and my motorhome but I’ll be damned if I’m going outside to check how many. “Some miles” will have to suffice for the purposes of this thread.
GSXR1100 10 miles in 7 years, Spondon Streetfighter 0 miles in 7 years, R1 1 trackday in the last 8 years. Multi does about 5k per year though so I do get out a bit
1098R unridden since 2015. Pani R unridden since 2020. Been on the KTMs the last 4 yrs with the ducatis under covers.
Bought a Panigale 1199R in 2020 with just 2000 miles on and I’ve never ridden it. Bought an 848 Streetfighter nearly 2 years ago and never ridden it! Both now for sale at Moto Technica. Only did 1300miles in my 911 last year! Despite my best intentions I don’t seem to be able to find time!
I didn’t get to ride my Panigale at all last year. It seemed to rain all summer. I’ve got a 1958 Buick which hasn’t turned a wheel in a few years. I love it, it’s a jukebox on wheels. It might have to go though, I’ve had it 34-35 years.
I’ve put about 3000 miles on my 916 since 2011. Too many toys not enough time! Undoubtedly spent more time servicing and tinkering with it than actually riding it.
Yes. Ive a 1098R that i just never got on with so have done around 500 miles on it max in around 7 years. Im a bit too tall and the suspension is very firm. If i rode it more i would have it looked at but the lack of miles means it just sits .
