1998 900fe.

  1. Hi all,
I was under the impression that the 900FE was sold as new with louder than standard cans. Would I be correct in thinking that? And if I am correct on the above, would that also mean that it was sold as new with the Stage 2 Dynojet kit fitted as standard?
I did not buy my FE brand new and thus I don't know. My bike has Sil Moto cans and a Stage 2 Dyno kit. I am seriously considering, at long last, of reregistering the bike in Spain, which is where I live. However, the rules in Spain are very strict on bikes that have been fettled, or that are not original. My thought process is that if the FE were sold as new already fettled, then I have not modified her.
I would have consulted my Ian Falloon book at such times but, alas the book is in Málaga and I am currently in Blighty!
All help / experience most welcomed!
    Gracias!
    Richard Richard Esq ;)

  2. Hey, The FE came new with fairly quiet high level cans, the same as fitted to the superlights. No Stage 2 Dynojet kit as standard.

  3. It's also normal to modify the airbox lid when fitting these bits you mention, worthy of note if you are returning to standard

  4. If the process is anything like France (which I've gone through twice now) they check for Oem exhausts (personally I would just fit some oem low level exhausts), lights dipped the correct side and correct computer (which the 900ss/sl/fe doesn't have) . They may ask for a km/h speedo, or if yours has dual reading it would be OK.
I can't see them checking for the carburateur needles so just say everything is stock, if you are concerned find a replacement second hand airbox lid for the validation process.

  7. Thank you. I thought this might be the case and that I was clutching at straws but worth asking anyway!

  8. Why's that Sev? And thank you.

  10. To import a bike here ( España ) it needs to be pretty much standard and as it left the factory. I had to supply all of the E numbers for all the lights, reflectors and mirrors as part of the registration process and yes standard exhausts are a must as the import ITV is more akin to a standard ITV on steroids. I got away with having a Superbike top yoke and handlebar conversion as the suppliers were able to supply me with the TUV paperwork for them. Not easy but not insurmountable and my bike was originally French, not UK registered. As an aside, if you're thinking of using a company to get it imported, drop me a PM and I'll tell you who to avoid from personal; experience......

  11. Actually the only real difference is getting the headlamp swapped over and some taxes, other than that there is little difference in the process as I and several acquaintances here who've gone through the process can attest.
Spain is a particularly difficult place to import into, in comparison to France which is a more straightforward procedure. Doesn't really matter if it's EU or non EU, they are difficult here as a direct result of years and years of protectionism of their own motor industry, much of which is actually made up of direct descendants of foreign companies who opened factories in Spain to get around the problems......

  12. I’ll bow to your greater knowledge and experience.

I can only go by the fun that Joe had trying to import his 851 into Spain, and he actually gave up on his two 900ss and sold them off in the end.
