Dunno if it's an urban myth but didn't scorpions survive the atomic bomb tests in Nevada? And can't they also survive extremes of temperature and have the ability to survive being frozen solid & then thawed? Arachnids I believe.
Scorpions and cockroaches I believe. I found a toad once frozen solid and I took it home and let it slowly thaw and it lived! Animals are amazing.
Got taken out for dinner by work as a thank you for all our hard work over the last couple of months. Twix caramel dessert was sickly but lovely.
Flight down to HCMC for the day. Checked in online yesterday morning and two minutes later got an email informing that the return flight would be delayed by one hour. Got up this morning to find another message saying the departing flight would be delayed by 40 minutes. Airlines... You've got to love them. Sadly Vietnam Airlines is the best of the bunch.
Yesterday was a day of doing more stuff around the house and garden. Even went to the garden centre and bought some plants for my pots (still need a shit load more tbh) so I have a bit of colour in the garden. I also had a couple of paving/patio contractors come round to measure up for doing two areas to the back garden
Sitting outside Gatport Airwick picking no.1 Son up after his gruelling flight from Japan. Trying to find somewhere half decent to eat…….
My army mate always used to talk about these blighters that could turn a troop of hardened, grizzled fighting men into a bunch of screaming girls. Camel spiders aka wind scorpions - 5 in in diameter & a top speed of 10 mph. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solifugae
Having finally got the house (inside at least) how we want we decided to go to join some friends for drinks and food last night in Newcastle. We got in at 4.30am. Back in the game!
Did my Bristol-Portishead-Clevedon-Bristol loop yesterday on the Hyper. The amazing weather even made the muddy Bristol Channel look good!
Renewed annual travel insurance policy today, last years claim made no difference. Checked this with broker who informed me that travel insurance doesn't work that way. I addition to an older pre-existing medical condition already on the renewal I had to just declare last years broken leg which was part of my claim for surgery in France to plate it plus, hospital stay, large prescription and repatriation after my off last June. This had no bearing on the premium as it was more than 4 months since the break, I wasn't booked to see a consultant about it and I don't have osteoporosis. Something of a result. So I'm now covered for next months trip to Dolomites and any other trips over the next 12 months.
