  3. After boating almost my whole life I’ve finally done it….. forgot I’d tilted the engine up and started it up, I only realised when it stopped. Thought I’d seized it and cooked the impeller but luckily it ran out of fuel first and the impeller seems to have survived also. I’m such a bloody idiot ( I actually blamed the wife for hassling me about having the fridge on! :grinning:) disaster avoided and back to cleaning. :joy:

  4. Easy to do Zeus. I assume it's on hydraulics for trim/Tilt adjustment.
    What size engine is it?
If I start my outboard with the prop out of the water you can hardly hear yourself think it's that loud.

  5. Yes hydraulics, it’s a Honda bf50 fuel injected. Preferred my older carb model but that’s another story. Normally I’d definitely hear it but everything was shut up because it was chucking it down and I was in the bow doing something else….well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  6. Ah, that makes sense, those 4-stroke Hondas are whisper quiet anyway.

I simply can't help myself but stick with 2-strokes as I just love them, but am of course now Fuel injected not carbs.
Sure I'll have to go 4 stroke next time I buy a used engine a few years old, as even Mercury have moved on to 4Ts and of course Evinrude gave up making ETECs when they ceased production entirely a couple of years ago.

  7. Those Evinrudes were fantastic, shame they stopped making them.

  8. Ventured in to town after my wet ride this morning to sort out a maturing ISA. Why did no-one tell me it's half term ? Now recovering in a PizzaExpress with a beer and a double pepperoni American. Being a bit late for lunch, all the kids have gone ... hoorah :D Andy

  9. The down side to being married to a teacher is that we can only take holidays during the school breaks and I hate kids :joy:

  10. Yep, lady Nasher is a teacher so even now our boys are doing their own thing we can only take holidays during the school breaks.
Although as she teaches in the private sector her school has longer holidays than the state schools so we try to make the most of those odd weeks when they don't overlap.

  11. My wife was a teacher for the first 20 years we were together, it was a PITA. When she stopped, it was lovely to be able to go on holiday whenever we want.

  12. It's not the kids it's the hike in prices that used to royally pee me off, especially when I used to snowboard.

When I first met my Mrs I so wanted her to get a job in Dubai, never happened.

Soon be time for my Mrs to retire from teaching and it can't come fast enough for her, i'm not so thrilled at the prospect though.

  13. Nope, that'll be it for your freedom!

  14. Not mine, i'll have none i'll be working until i'm just too old to carry on, it the Mrs at home and lots of shopping days available.

Plus she'll be too young to pick up a state pension for a good few years yet, so someone will have to fill that void.

  15. Dug out my old brake & clutch hoses to measure up for ordering new in the SS restomod project.

+1 here for how crap it is being forced to take all your hols in peak season due to the wife being a teacher… it’s bloody irritating and damned expensive…

However last year I didn’t get more than a week’s hols due to an insanely busy work year so this summer I’m taking 6 or 7 weeks off. 3 with wifey and 3 or 4 on the bike!

  18. Does this account for the bombardment of adverts that seem to have just started, it's almost unworkable :confounded:

  19. Either install an add blocker, pay the £5 subscribers fee or suffer the adverts.

Paying £00.96p per week to not have the adverts and to keep Duccie in Handbags and Shoes isn’t so much to pay IMO.
