Speed Camera

  1. Out for a blast this morning, dry and bright, slightly cool.
Through the back lanes down to Henley, lets have a blast up the hill to Bix, nothing on the road, I slow down into a 40 zone then spot a police van, I naturally slow down further, not sure how fast I was going but probably alright, then I thought I'm facing the camera, they can't identify me, can they?
Answers on a post card please.

  2. You know the answer about the camera. My question is how good is your luck?

  3. If it's just an automated camera then you are fine, if there was an officer in there they could make a note of your number once it becomes visible even after you slow down and pass them. 14 days wait ahead I am afraid.

  4. I thought the mobile vans had a camera pointing the opposite way to get bike number plates.

  5. A camera van detects your speed up to half a mile away, and if its a motorcycle: the operator has a hand held switch which is connected to a regular camera pointing through the front windscreen of the van which he takes a photo of your rear number plate as you pass the van. I know this as I was given a demo by such a van.

  6. It’s about the only time you see a copper outside of a vehicle these days.

They’re crafty too. I saw one the other day at the bottom of a hill. More chance someone has gone above the limit, coming down, I suppose - therefore greater likelihood of more easy nicks.

    Fingers crossed for OP.

  7. I ride that road regularly, so will remember to keep an eye out for the plod in future. Hopefully you’ve got away with this one though.

  8. Just as it drops to 40, I went on through the woods and came back slowly, I checked for other cameras, didn't see anything

  9. It was a van

  10. There is a van that parks just down from my house allot as we are on the line where it drops from 40 to 30.

That one has the rear facing speed camera and also a CCTV camera on top that he can control. Seen him rotate that and follow a car as it went past so sadly good chance they all have something similar. Its not a new van/few years old so been around a while.

Keep my fingers crossed you get no post this week

  11. When my bike broke down mid traffic recently I was fortunate enough to be able to push it back to a parked up police surveillance van.
Looking to explain why I was on the hard shoulder I asked him if he’d seen me trying to work my slowing bike across three lanes of moving traffic he yawned and and replied ‘no the camera is automated’ I got the distinct impression I’d just woken him up from an afternoon slumber.
In this case a front facing camera wasn’t visible in the windscreen as I walked up to it, not to say they are all the same.

  12. I checked the roof on my way back but couldn't see any other cameras

  13. I think you’ll be okay. If you haven’t had the the letter within 5 working days you should be fine. Every time I’ve been nicked by mobile speed camera, I’ve received a NIP in sharp order.

For future reference- Waze is your friend. I never go for a blast without being hooked up to Waze.

  14. some speed camera vehicles have front, side and rear camera so they can claim continuity of evidence, the rear camera will get your plate. don't believe the ones behind front windows are admissible due to the heated elements in some windows.
