Insurance Who To Use?

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by peter walker, Apr 15, 2024.

  1. At a minimum your driving license I would suggest and maybe set up a bank account at your Moms home?

How far do you believe they'll delve to see if the details you have given are correct and how willing are you to accept the risk?

  2. He will discover “how much” if he makes a claim.

  3. or move back to mummy's

  4. At the risk of being a negative nelly, be careful about using an address this is not your main address. You are buying a financial product that covers you against financial risk for a premium. Obtaining that product by submitting false information could carry a criminal penalty.

Because of my central London home address, albeit in a nice area, and my bikes are kept in specialist storage near Oxford, with max NCB my annual premium cover for one bike was over 2k because of my home address. Have an accident, make a claim, and your real address will be discovered and cascading events will follow.

  5. Just had my renewal quote from Carole Nash for all 3 bikes at £550 (£40 cheaper than last year), tried a couple of others so far and not even close to matching. Any multi bike policy recommendations? Done Bennetts and Devitt so far.

  6. its insane, i bet the bike never comes to London either, it seems to me that AI just does the price calculations, common sense or logic are not factors

  7. Correct, it never sets foot in London. It takes around an hour in any direction to get to anywhere over 20mph, and at that speed my skin is near pealing off from the exhaust heat. To be honest, most my bikes solely get used on the road, mostly get used on track and nowadays that's outside the UK.

While it had Ducati insurance, I did keep my Panigale R (V2) in London, under 3 covers, the last of which (Oxford Storm cover) was putrid green and covered in moss. Nobody ever when near it. Once it was 3 years+ old Ducati insurance wouldn't cover it any longer :( they have a tie up with Ducati who help reduce the cost on new bikes.

  8. The Africa Twin theft claim drags on into week three…..

“I have started to review your motorcycle claim
As we understand that your motorcycle was stolen away from your garaging address of **** *** Can you please provide me with some images of your garage at your garaging address, as when the policy was set up, you declared the bike would be kept in a garage, so when you make a claim on your policy, the insurer wants to see that you have adhered to all the terms and conditions on your policy, i.e. evidencing there is a garage at the **** ***, as this was a material factor in the risk being accepted at the premium quoted”.

Might be hard for you to claim you live at your Mum’s on the photo evidence…..

  9. Hastings direct here. Renewal went down another third this year.

  10. I've just gone with them. £545 vs £310......no brainer really :bucktooth:

  11. Regarding security devices: For peace of mind I have quite a few when stored in the garage, though when out and about this is reduced for practical purposes (I don't carry the huge chain I use with my ground anchor). When renewing one year the broker asked for security devices and I reeled off a list. He said choose the two that you use most often and, if possible are part of the bike. Reason for this, he explained, was that the underwriter only factors in two, beyond that they're irrelevant in terms of any discount. Given a theft claim it'll help if the listed ones are in use at the time. We discussed this further and arrived at the Ducati factory installed immobiliser and my biketrac tracker, both on the underwriters approved list, and automatically activated once the ignition is turned off. I have a Ducati alarm and a Roadlock disk lock, that I'll use if leaving the bike out of sight when away from home, but adding these in addition made no difference to the quote. So best to not list them was his suggestion, as they would then be required in the event of a claim. YMMV.

I have claims experience with Carole Nash, whilst that's generally more down to the underwriter than the broker, I've had satisfactory service on two claims over the years I've been using them. To me that's worth a little extra along with things like European recovery etc. Of course, if the renewal is a big jump I'll shop around and then get back to them on the phone which has resulted in a better deal on more than one occasion.
