Just bought some carbon wheels off another forum member and phoned the dealers to get them fitted. Just had a call back saying they won’t fit them because they “the workshop doesn’t install aftermarket parts” haha I said to him you fittted my aftermarket rear sets 8 weeks ago and he said well we can’t do them til the end of August then. Should I be concerned?
I need to think about how I’m getting me the wheels and my bike there and back Is that tyre guy in Romford still there?
Cast your mind back to the earliest deliveries of the Panigale V4 in the States and the fire that consumed a customer’s bike. Primary cause was the numpty Ducati technician who failed to install the main fuel cap gasket when fitting a customer supplied aftermarket fuel cap. This allowed fuel to pour out of the tank onto the hot exhaust under braking. The dealership got crucified and the message from on high to all dealers was, “don’t fit aftermarket parts supplied by the customer”. As far as I know, this is adhered to but fitting aftermarket parts sourced by the dealer seems to be acceptable. Andy
I don’t know anyone in Romford mate. You could also try Phil at BikeTech in Hullbridge - he does my tyres so assume he can remove/refit wheels. Faff I know but ride the bike there and then have a mate bring the wheels, then do same in reverse?
Mates just said to me get a cheap front wheel stand and get it down to mark duval in Harlow. All good. Still a bit miffed at the dealers response although they did say their “computers were down” today…
Caveated with, “as far as I know”. We are talking 2018 and there was a lot of hoo haa, pretty sure the chap got a new bike and a settlement package that came out of Ducati America’s pocket. As time passes, memories fade and the prospect of being paid for a job that Ducati doesn’t get a cut of, is obviously tempting, probably too tempting for some. That said, it's a dog eat dog business which some haven’t survived. Andy
It was just bizarre because the dealers in question have been great so far, I just wondered if it had anything to do with the thread on here a while ago about carbon wheels failing and maybe them not wanting to fit “second hand wheels”…
