Perhaps we should start another thread - Tanks ! There must be a few tanks in France - as part of WW2 memorials. I have seen a US Sherman somewhere in the Ardennes as part of a WW2 memorial, but can't remember where exactly.
Mrs Five and I will be on an early o clock crossing from Poole tomorrow to spend two weeks driving down the west coast to Bilbao. Taking the car, but going back in September with friends on two wheels. If I spot any historic weaponry I’ll bung up a post.

If you get the opportunity don't miss riding the "route Napoleon" from Grasse to Castellane. Used to ride this road every weekend (I moved there because of the road) and I'd rate it the best biking road I've ever ridden. Just be careful it can catch you out if you're not fully concentrating.
…and watch for Gendarmes, esp late afternoon. More presence than there used to be. Did a section in the car a few weeks back as part of a banger rally. Need to get back on the bike. Great fun in 2008 on an R1. Some great roads in the area.
...and from Castellane, take the road west (towards Lac de Sainte-Croix), that's the Gorge de Verdon! Happy travels!
We got pulled over last summer on the Rte. Napoleon, I was leading and followed by two others. One of the followers got zapped on an overtake which cost him €90 IRRC. We were all borderline and probably over the speed limit, just the overtaker was doing more and became the target. Myself and the other guy sweated along with him until the gendarme with the radar gun caught up with us. He'd radioed ahead to his colleague to pull us all over.
^^ you can still have fun, just cant go mad these days. Obviously, if not on French plates, your concern should just be a fine. Real ‘excess’ will still land you in trouble.
You guys tried to fill France with English people from Engerland for centuries… You can only blame yourselves for it still being full of French. That’s all I have to say about this.
Leaving in a couple of days, travelling with two mates (996 and a S1000RR). They'll no doubt egg each other on, It's been my intention for a while to just hang back and watch.
24mph (40km) over the limit and gendarmes can take your licence away on the spot now. Bike fatalities are up over much of Europe in the last couple of years so they are on the look out for speeders.
