Garage Doors

  1. I've been considering trackers. More to reduce the cost of insurance than anything, though from posts here it looks like that may be by a trifling amount. Anyway I'm more interested in stopping a bike being nicked in the first place. That will come down almost entirely to how secure it is in the garage, so presumably the first line of defense must be the door.

I imagine there are many on this forum with garage doors robustly constructed from the security perspective. Recommendations would be appreciated.

Had these fitted to the garage as part of the rebuild. They are secure and work well with a remote control. Only issue I’ve experienced is when the receiver battery attached to the inside of the door starts to fail it leaves the door half open, which is fine if you’re around with a new battery at hand.
I’ve since added a mains operated camera for an extra layer of protection

  3. I just fitted a SecuroGlide Excel Door - Which is Sold Secure By Design and Police Approved (Or something like that)

It has Heavy Aluminium Locking / Lift Straps and locking T Guide in the bottom as the door shuts (Helps with bending door) and the Top of the door has pins that Slot in behind a locking stay (to stop Lift)

The door also has Webbing Straps to stop slates being cut and pulled out.

It was the most secure roller door I could find - in Insulated Slatted Aluminium....

If you want more - you can go to Slatted Steel or there are a few insulated slatted steel.... Issue is they are VERY NOISY opening and Closing.

I shopped around and the online Supply Only price was around £2500 (3M Wide 2.1M High) a local Installer for the company did Supply and Install for the same price.....

Has the Alarm on the Panel (Sensor on door) but I just added a Wireless Burgular Alarm - just for the Garage - from Amazon (Seperate to House Alarm) This has 2 Door Sensors - 2 PIR Sensors - Alarm Siren - Internal Control Box and RFID Tags.

We also have Blink Cameras outside and in Garage.

Plus I lock the drive gates in the night. Alos Van is infront of the Garage.

Plus Bike has 2 Hiplock D Locks and Pragmasis Anti Pinch Pin (rear spindle) and Chains and Ground Anchors and will install a Second A P Pin through the Swing Arm with another Ground Anchor as soon as they become available (Tuesday)

Then 6 St Bernards in the House.

Bike Keys are in A Heavy Duty Key safe also.

  5. One thing I could never work out with PIRs it do they activate (due to the hot engine) when you park the bike up in the garage & immediately set the alarm?

Or will they be fine because the heat source isn't moving?

  6. They are motion detectors :upyeah:

  7. As above - motion detector on the heat source.

    No issues triggering so far.

Expat Jack.... You want to come and do a Test? See how long it would take before the dogs eat you? or how long it takes to get the other more serious security from the safe?

  10. 3 of them are 85KG each.... they would likely squash you to death after knocking you over for a fuss...

  11. When I moved house I got rid of the old up-and-over and fitted outward opening side-doors, arranged two-third / one-third. It didn't cost much. From a security persective you can then fit bfo drop-bolts on the inside. From a space perspective they take none up since they open outwards. And I like the fact that you can potter in the garage with one door open for ventilation while passers-by can't really see in.

  12. A good tracked, sectional door. Some, not all rollers, can be got into just like opening a tin can..they just peel away with wrecking bar at the sides.
Currently I still have the old canopy door fitted in the UK. But a big pair of mole grips on the catch at the top, cant be pushed beyond the keep plate. There is also an old Clio parked tight to the door. Then Roadlok on the bike. Would take two very big guys to move the GS with Roadlok on!
My workshop in France has a big steel door, hinges fastened with bolt heads rounded, so they would need to be cut off from inside. Then a Masterlock fitted, same as the security locks on van doors.
Tbh, if they get past that and the security lock on the Superduke, they can have it. Not even sure I want the KTM anymore anyway, after the engine fcukd last year
