Hi all. Had recently very weird oil change on my MTS 1260s. It wasn't my first change. Did everything as usual. Started the bike for few mins , got the oil pan ready, few rags, new washer, filter and oil. Used oil drained. I have cleaned everything put back the draining bolt and after 3l of fresh oil I spoted that the oil is on max level already. Checked the net for more info as I was sure that on the last change I have used 4l of oil. It said 4.2l with new filter. Any idea where the 1l of oil can stuck? Did I something wrong way? Did I missed something? Thanks for any advice. Ride safe. Jiri
Did you change the filter - I always change mine at the same time as the oil. Have you run the bike after putting the oil in? The level will typically change after running for a couple of minutes.
Hi. Thanks for reply. Yes I always changing filters with oil. Hiflo Racing, a bit oil in the filter before fitting. I seen straight away the oil stuck somewhere coz I was using Motul 7100 and the oil is red. Now I used Mobil 1 racing and after start the oil was dark immediately. Really don't know what happened. Im leaving soon for long trip so I will change the oil again. Thats why I need to find out what happened there. Not to repeat the same mistake. Thanks. Jiri
Typically on an oil & filter change on Multis, both 1200 & 1260, I’m using about 3.6 - 3.7ltrs of new oil. Just run the engine for a short while, leave it to settle for an hour or so and check your level then. I’d wager you have to add about 0.5ltrs more to bring the level back up to the max mark.
Thats why this was weird. Was on max afer 3l and didn't drop down after driving. Do you guys open and clean the mesh filter as well? Thank you
Ive had issues like this on various bikes over the years. I always keep my used oil until I’m satisfied with the change and level. That way you can always measure what came out. Good for peace of mind!
Ay up me o'd mucka. I was thinking just like when draining coolant until you release the cap it won't run out. But if it was off it's off. It's one of those biking conundrums best discussed over beer. Upt.
Only at Desmo service time. Or, if as on a recent bike, someone has broken off an Allen key head in the sump plug and the sump plug now can never be removed so it has to be drained via the mesh filter . ps. As said by @Treadlighty I always measure what comes out.
