awesome thank you wasn't thinking that at all. I fully appreciate that. Don't mind paying the extra if it's worth and you've explained the reasons. I appreciate your input
obdstar.co.uk is an authorised agent of OBDStar, just like BMDiag, and not part of OBDStar themselves whose website is obdstar.com. They've just gained the .co.uk domain to give a veil of UK legitimacy*. Though obdstar.co.uk gives the impression of being OBDStar exclusively this is not the case they also run obd2shop.co.uk and probably others... They're based in China so good luck with support and if necessary any warranty returns. * Nominet should, IMHO, really operate the same way as the French RSP (Registry Service Provider) and only issue domains to individuals and organisations within their country.
Completely up to you m8, just imparting what I've learnt. Yes, it's cheaper and the software updates are over a longer period with obdstar.co.uk. All vey appealing, though there is a downside. Like @West Cork Paul I have no affiliation with BMDiag other than being a satisfied customer. Please note that the software and device continues to operate after the expiry of the free update period. This is unlike some of the other phone based OBD readers where you have to pay an annual sub to keep using it. With a MY18 bike it's unlikely that there will be any further significant extra features added.
I value your input and certainly seems beneficial to buy from a uk company that can give you support. This is all new to me so I have to listen to the people that have personal experience with this. I had no idea OBDstar uk wasn't actually a uk company that won't offer good support so I'm glad I asked the question. so thank you for keeping me on the right track
Hi All I just tried to connect my unit to an '04 Multistrada (not mine) which had 2 wires in the 3-pin connector. It failed to communicate so I'm wondering what could be wrong other than a broken wire... The Canbus is a 2-wire system but I'm wondering why there's no 12V (battery) wire too
You did use the Croc clip plug-in lead to connect to the bike battery? Had to do this when using the OBDStar with Bradders' Monster with the older 3 pin socket.
Currently having problems with my ancient Prius (yes, I know...), so connected my OBDStar and used the generic OBD option. Wow - full access to all the readings/sensors and easily erased the existing error code. Result! All I have to do now is find someone who understands how these weird cars work 'cos I'm stumped...
Hi Bumpkin I have a 2014 Monster 1200s. 9,500m Recently changed the tyres and put a 200 section tyre on the rear -bigger is better After about 500m I got the mileage reading ———— and flashing. It might be coincidence but I have read that with the 200 section being a slightly larger diameter that there is an error between what the front sensor has measured and what the rear has measured. I happy to buy scanner but at £300 I was hoping to check it would work first. I’ve tried contacting Obdstar.co.uk but they think I’m trying to alter the mileage and of course the scanner won’t do that. But that’s not what I want to do. From a couple of things I’ve read it’s a case of resyncing what the two sensors have recorded. will the Obdstar iScan Ducati do this for me. I tried to search the forum for an answer but can’t find exactly what I’m looking for. Can you help? Thanks Ian
Hi Ian and welcome. Sorry, I'm not sure if it'll sort that either. I don't think so. Does the bike's menu have a calibration feature? That's something that's on the Multis from at least the 2015 DVT model, if not earlier. This allows for calibration of speedo and for ABS purposes after a tyre change (I think also gearing change). Check your owners handbook. I do know that for the Multi it is possible to go out of the acceptable range though. You might unfortunately find that's the case with your tyre change. Here's the OBDStar capabilities spreadsheet for the Monster 1200 E3, there's no listing for the S but I've had this question before and in terms of the OBDStar the std model and the S are the same. The R on the other hand isn't. In terms of advice obdstar.co.uk are misleadingly in the far east, not the UK. I wouldn't expect much in the way of help from them. The guy to speak to is Rob at BMDiag.
Hi Thanks for getting back so quickly. I’ll take a gamble on it. The “totaliser” function sounds like it will restore the mileage. My year does have the calibration feature but even if I have to reset it every few hundred miles it won’t be that bad. thanks again for you help
Not so sure on that, best speak to Rob at BMDiag first. I think once set it's good for the life of the tyre. Nothing to prevent you doing it every now and again though. Again, not certain that the bigger tyre might be out of range for what the system is expecting as a variation. You could find that it fails calibration or displays the errors again.
@Carlos F the totaliser function is to correct the mileage the bike has travelled when there’s a mismatch between what’s stored in the dash and in the BBS which can happen if one of those units has been replaced for some reason. The totaliser will write the largest mileage to both. It’s true the dash will display - - - - - if there is a mismatch between the mileages stored in the dash and BBS but in this instance your display turned to dashes after just 500mtr so I don’t believe that’s your issue here. If it were me I’d run through the tyre calibration procedure first as I suspect, as @Bumpkin said above, the issue lies in mismatched rotational wheel speeds as conveyed by the wheel sensors to the BBS and ABS computers.
Hi Paul Thanks for this. My bike doesn't have the calibration feature in the menu. Also the - - - - - - - appeared after approx 500 miles. Does that sound more like the mis match is the issue? Thanks Ian
Sorry, thought it was 500mtrs, I must have misinterpreted it. It’s possible after 500 miles but the info is given to the BBS and the Dash by the same rear wheel sensor so I don’t think that’s the issue here. Have you by any chance had any other issues with the dash recently, ie it just going blank for no reason?
